We started with no money. No investors. No fancy office. Just three of us… and a laptop in my living room. That was January 2000. In the 25 years since, we survived: → 9/11, which wiped out our pipeline overnight → The 2008 crash, when no one wanted to commit to office space → COVID, which brought the whole industry to its knees Somehow, we made it through. We didn’t pivot. We built. Today, that same business turns over £100M+, has won national awards, and is trusted by global clients. But the bit I’m proudest of?! We built the business our way - with people we believed in. Here’s what no one tells you when you start: > Building something that lasts takes longer than you think. > But it’s also more worth it than you can imagine. If you're in year one… Or year five… And wondering if it's ever going to click - keep going!!! You don’t need a perfect pitch deck. You need belief, grit, and a team that’s all in. That’s how we did it. And I wouldn’t change a thing! (well maybe one or two things....) Nigel Hudson James Cornwell Area

🚧 What is Lean Construction? The answers were part of the excellent Lean Construction seminar in Istanbul hosted by Studio Alliance member Diem Mühendislik Mimarlık In construction, time and resources are everything. But too often, projects suffer from delays, rework, and wasted effort. That’s where lean construction comes in. Sebastian Mantei from apoprojekt explained it’s all about: ✅ Cutting waste ✅ Focusing on what the client truly values ✅ Keeping work flowing smoothly ✅ Building stronger collaboration between teams The result? Faster delivery, lower costs, fewer disputes, and better quality. In short: work smarter, not harder. Lean construction turns the chaos of traditional projects into a more efficient, value-driven process. This subject intrigues me- can we change a mind set in our businesses and deliver for our clients? Time will tell. Oh and Istanbul absolutely rocks... we also attended a magnificent 60th birthday celebration for Turner Construction Company THANK YOU!!!

Next week, Ljubljana becomes the capital of workplace design! I’ll be at the Workplace Design Conference with Studio Alliance, alongside some of Europe’s sharpest minds in workplace strategy, design, and delivery. What I’m looking forward to most? → Hearing how workplace priorities are shifting in different markets → Sharing what we’re seeing across the 18 countries we're active in → Challenging a few assumptions about what “good” looks like now The conversations that matter don’t just happen on stage - they happen in the coffee breaks, the side chats, and the “what if we tried this?” moments. If you’re in the room, let’s make one of those conversations happen! Drop me a line 👇

The most meaningful work I’ve ever done didn’t make us a penny. In fact, it cost us time, resource, and energy. And it was worth every bit of it. Years ago, we chose to support a children’s hospice – Shooting Star Children's Hospices. We didn’t just write a cheque. We got stuck in. Charity bike rides. Climbing mountains. Gala auctions. Personal donations. Everyone from the board to the site team was involved. Even my son (in the pic below!) Together, we have raised over £500,000 and we haven’t stopped. And yes – we were invited to No.10 and Buckingham Palace. But that’s not the bit that sticks with me. What sticks is the memory of walking through that hospice. Seeing the impact. Feeling it. I’ve help build businesses. We’ve won awards. We’ve hit targets. But nothing compares to building a legacy that matters outside the boardroom. We don’t talk enough about purpose in this industry. Too often, we chase growth, turnover, prestige. But here’s what I’ve learned: Legacy isn’t just about what you build. It’s about who you choose to help while building it.

Sustainable fit-out isn’t a trend, it’s the future. 🌍 From reduced carbon footprints to healthier, more resilient workplaces, sustainable tenant fit-outs are reshaping the way we design interiors. Why does it matter? 🔹 It answers the demand for greener, more responsible business practices. 🔹 It creates environments that prioritise wellbeing as much as aesthetics. 🔹 It supports long-term cost efficiency and durability. At Studio Alliance, our members are leading this shift. With local expertise and international collaboration, we help businesses design spaces that meet today’s environmental responsibilities while preparing for tomorrow’s challenges. Office space has to move faster than it used to. Recently I was asked to contribute to the Tomorrow’s Office report - published on Dezeen and developed with Knauf - alongside our Studio Alliance member Ditt Officemakers. The report looks at how workplaces are adapting to hybrid work, sustainability, inclusivity, wellbeing, and tech. A few points that stood out for me: → Offices should be toolkits you can adapt - NOT static destinations → Social and environmental responsibility is shaping EVERY project now → The spaces people are coming back to don’t look like the ones they LEFT These are the same conversations I’m having with clients every week - which is why it was great to see them pulled together in one place. Thanks to Betterness, Fragile, Ditt Officemakers and Joost de Jong for making this happen!! Tap the link if you’d like to read it: https://lnkd.in/e87HbP4K

72 hours to go until Amsterdam! The CoreNet Global EMEA Summit is always a chance to step back from the day-to-day and hear what’s really shifting in corporate real estate. This year’s theme - Innovate to Thrive - feels right on point. Because innovation for the sake of it is just noise. And there's way too much of it in our industry! But innovation with a clear purpose is where the real value is. I’ll be there to: → Swap ideas on what’s working across markets → Hear how others are adapting to constant change → Share a few lessons learned from the last 25+ years in workplace design and strategy If you’re in Amsterdam, I’d love to hear what’s on your mind right now. Let's grab coffee! #corenetglobal #corenetEMEA #Amsterdam
