📣 The way is now open to building a #EuroHPC mid-range #supercomputer 🖥️⚡in #Ireland ! A hosting agreement has been officially signed between the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU) and the University of Galway , paving the way for #CASPIr, a mid-range #HPC system capable of over 1️⃣5️⃣ petaflops or 1️⃣5️⃣ million billion operations per second! 🔬 Once operational, CASPIr will: ⚡Support cutting-edge #AI and #machinelearning workloads; ⚡Advance scientific #research, #innovation, and #industry applications in Ireland and across #Europe ⚡Strengthen the newly selected AI Factory IRL-Antenna part of the European AI Factory network 🛠️ Operated by the ICHEC (Irish Centre for High-End Computing) and co-funded by EuroHPC JU and the Government of Ireland, CASPIr will serve a wide range of users across Ireland and Europe. 💻Ireland has made two major steps forward in national AI capabilities and computing capacity, after a successful AI Factory Antenna bid and an agreement that paves the way for the procurement of a new national supercomputer. 🎖The Irish ‘AIF IRL-Antenna’ has been awarded €5m in European funding, a figure that will be matched by the State, while the signing of a Hosting Agreement sees a major milestone passed in the acquisition of a supercomputer. 🏢Both projects were led by University of Galway and the ICHEC (Irish Centre for High-End Computing). 🗣Minister James Lawless said: “These breakthroughs will open doors for researchers, developers, public bodies and institutions across Ireland, providing access to cutting-edge infrastructure, expert support and European AI networks. From climate and health to transport and advanced manufacturing, this will accelerate innovation across every corner of our economy and society.”

We welcomed a new cohort of students to the National MSc in Artificial Intelligence for an orientation session at University of Limerick on the 6th September. This 2-year programme is designed to develop the next generation of #AI leaders for Ireland, equipping professionals with the skills and knowledge to shape the future of technology. The orientation marks the official start of the programme and the kick off for the 14-week Certificate in Artificial Intelligence, a preparatory course for entry to the Master's, delivered in collaboration with the ICHEC (Irish Centre for High-End Computing).
