Yesterday (Thurs 22nd Oct), we held the 4th workshop in our #techBREK AI Workshop Series and a huge thank you goes to our wonderful guest speaker, Alan Smeaton, for taking us on a rollercoaster ride through the world of #AI and #AgenticAI. 💡From thought-provoking insights to real-world applications, every minute was packed with learning, energy, and inspiration. A special thanks as well to our fantastic moderator, Kate Minogue, whose lively Q&A helped unpack Alan’s thinking and brought fresh perspective to the conversation. The exchange of ideas and those “aha” moments reminded us why these types of events matter so much.

Love to see this 👇 When a tech leader like Ciaran Treanor, CTO at Sonalake, is sharing his learning journey on our National MSc in Artificial Intelligence, it says something important: Upskilling in #AI isn’t just for early-career talent - it’s part of staying sharp, even at the top. Delivered with the University of Limerick, this 2-year online Master's programme supports deep, applied learning. Learn more about joining the 2026 cohort by speaking to Anne O'Connell at https://lnkd.in/ebsBtbcU #LifelongLearning #TechLeadership
Back to school I’ve just wrapped up the first module of my MSc in Artificial Intelligence: CE4021: Introduction to Scientific Computing for AI at University of Limerick. A solid refresher on the maths and an introduction to computational foundations of machine learning. We covered a lot of ground: 🔹 Weeks 1–2: Calculus basics: differentiation, integration, and limits along with some Python work in Jupyter. Useful to revisit how the basic rules of calculus still sit at the heart of most machine learning algorithms. 🔹 Weeks 3–4: Linear algebra: the real language of machine learning. We implemented matrix operations, built a simple linear regression model, and saw how PCA reduces dimensionality by rotating data into a more meaningful basis. 🔹 Weeks 5–6: Probability theory: from distributions and expectations to Bayes’ rule and a hands-on Naïve Bayes spam filter. A simple example, but it shows the role of statistical reasoning in much of AI. What I liked most was the mix of maths and code. Building from first principles, rather than calling out to libraries, helps me get my head around how things work. On to the next one. Hoping I can keep the pace! 🏃➡️ https://lnkd.in/eGnx-g6i #ArtificialIntelligence #MachineLearning #Python #LinearAlgebra #Probability #Education

We asked our network: What’s your biggest #cybersecurity concern right now? The top concern wasn’t firewalls, fancy tech, or zero-days...it was people. Human error + phishing (i.e., behaviour-based risks) led the poll by a clear margin. This is a wake-up call: technology alone isn't enough. Cyber resilience is just as much about mindsets as it is about malware. This shift signals a pressing need for: 🔐 More behavioural-focused security frameworks 🧠 Continuous, embedded security awareness 🤝 Cross-functional collaboration to drive a secure-by-default culture Let’s move beyond compliance and build real resilience. If you're working in cybersecurity and looking to become an effective and influential leader, start by exploring our 'Leading in Cybersecurity' course, supported by Cyber Ireland and delivered with Irish Management Institute. The 6x in-person sessions start from January, with a short virtual induction session in December. Fee's are funded up 60% by Technology Ireland ICT Skillnet 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eAVzedfD #CyberSecMonth #EuropeanCybersecurityMonth

🎯𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗨'𝘀 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗹𝘆 𝗔𝗜 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗜𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 On the 8th October, the European Commission released their 'Apply AI Strategy', setting out how best to speed up adoption of #AI by both industry and public sector across Europe, as part of the wider plan to create an #AIContinent. The goal of the #ApplyAI strategy is to foster the growth of, and trust in, the European AI ecosystem, by accelerating the time to market and linking infrastructure, data, and testing facilities - enhancing European competitiveness and technological sovereignty. From developing the National Master's in AI and other accredited AI courses, to launching our #AIHub, and delivering the hands-on #techBREK AI Workshop series for business leaders, we strive to operate where AI capability meets industry demand.
