DAA have just awarded the Dublin Airport €265 million airfield tunnel contract to JV partnership. The construction of the West Apron Vehicle Underpass is moving into its next phase. The project, which is scheduled for completion by August 2030, will see the construction of a 1.1 km subterranean twin-cell tunnel connecting Pier 3 at Dublin Airport to the West Apron. This marks the first of many planned major infrastructure improvements for Dublin airport. Connecting Shannon Airport to the national rail network can be done in five years for less than €500m (the Strategic Rail Review costed it at €100-200m in 2023). What is the government waiting for? We were pleased to welcome Maria O'Dwyer, Director of Infrastructure Delivery, and Veronica Harrington, Head of Portfolio Office Infrastructure Delivery from Uisce Éireann Irish Water, to our Carheen to Caherlistrane Watermain Rehabilitation site in Galway last week. The project is part of the Leakage Reduction Programme in our Regional Call Off Contract with Uisce Éireann, where we are responsible for the installation and rehabilitation of new and existing water mains.    This scheme involves replacing 3km of 500mm brittle UPVC main, which was prone to bursting, with new 355mm HDPE. This will reduce leakage in the area, providing surety of water supply and future proof the local water main infrastructure by installing modern high specification water pipelines. The new watermain has been designed and constructed via inserting the new 355mm main inside the old 500mm main, reducing use of aggregates, surfacing materials, and lessening the impact of the works on the local community, a modern sustainable solution. In total almost 75km of new watermains have been constructed by Farrans since August 2023, all helping Uisce Éireann to meet their leakage targets. Approval has been granted by An Coimisiún Pleanála on the Railway Order application for DART+ Coastal North, which will extend the electrified DART network from Malahide to Drogheda Stations. Funded by the Department of Transport through the National Transport Authority, under Project Ireland 2040, the project will significantly increase the peak hourly capacity and frequency of services on the Northern route between Dublin City Centre and Malahide, Howth and Drogheda.
