Creating Inclusive Pathways into Employment This weekend on RTÉ Radio 1, our CEO Adam Harris spoke about a powerful shift underway in the Irish insurance industry — one that’s focused on making the sector accessible to Autistic talent. That conversation marked the official launch of the Autism Accessible Employer Charter, a joint initiative between AsIAm and the Insurance Ireland Inclusion Taskforce. This Charter is designed to support Insurance Ireland member companies in assessing and developing inclusive hiring and workplace practices, with the goal of better attracting, retaining, and progressing Autistic employees. At its core, this initiative aims to create more meaningful employment opportunities, recognising the mutual benefit for autistic people and for businesses seeking untapped talent. With as many as 85% of Autistic people in Ireland unemployed or underemployed, the need for change is urgent. We are proud to work with progressive industry leaders who are taking this challenge seriously and taking action. We’re also encouraging companies across all sectors to consider becoming Autism-Friendly Employers by joining the AsIAm Employer Partnership Programme. 🗓️ One week on from our meeting with the Minister Robert Troy and Bryan O'Connor, CEO of AIB Life, Insurance Ireland is reflecting on two key proposals that could modernise Ireland’s investment landscape and empower middle Ireland to invest for their future. 🔹 Life Assurance Exit Tax (LAET) reform was a central part of our discussion. We welcomed the inclusion of our long-standing proposals in the Funds Sector Review Report—including equalising LAET with Capital Gains Tax and DIRT, removing the eight-year deemed disposal rule, and repealing the 1% levy on life assurance premiums.s. 🔹 We also discussed the potential of an Irish Individual Savings Account (ISA)—a simple, flexible, and tax-efficient savings product inspired by successful models in the UK, Italy, and Sweden. With over €178 billion held on deposit by Irish households, and retail investor participation in capital markets still low, an Irish ISA could unlock capital, support long-term financial planning, and help everyday savers benefit from productive investment opportunities. These reforms are not just technical, they’re transformational.
