Alabama, here we come! This past weekend, we had the privilege of supporting the 𝗔𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗮𝗺𝗮 𝗚𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. What an amazing event, organized by Dr. Mohamad Eloubeidi  , Jill Smith , and their team. The interest in Precision-GI™ was high, and the excitement about its potential was even higher. About 30% of patients still leave an EUS biopsy without enough tissue for molecular testing. Many can’t afford to wait for a second procedure. The latest ASGE/ACG quality-indicator update highlights first-pass specimen adequacy as a key benchmark. This gives biopsy systems a clear mandate: reach the target lesion and provide tissue sufficient for full diagnostic work-up on the first pass. EUS-FNB: Is Histology Alone Enough? The Evidence Suggests It May Be. A meta-analysis published this month (see link below) compared outcomes of histology-only EUS-FNB with combined cyto-histological analysis in patients with solid pancreatic lesions. The data, based on over 2,900 cases across 29 studies, showed that histology alone provides similar diagnostic accuracy and tissue adequacy. These findings are consistent with what we’re seeing in the field: as needle technology improves and the quality of core samples increases, histology alone can often meet the diagnostic standard — without requiring routine cytology. As sampling tools continue to improve, it makes sense to revisit the surrounding workflows, including pathology, to ensure they align with the quality of tissue now being collected.
