Everything in a Computer is Just 0s and 1s When we work in Embedded Systems, we often deal with numbers, registers, and memory. But here’s the reality: 👉 Inside a microcontroller, there are no “13s” or “A’s” — only binary patterns. 📌 How different data is stored: Integers → Stored as binary (e.g., 13 → 00001101). Signed numbers → Two’s complement representation (e.g., -5 → 11111011 in 8-bit). Characters → ASCII codes ('A' → 01000001). Floating-point values → IEEE 754 format (with sign, exponent, mantissa). This is why embedded engineers spend time with bitwise operations, masking, and shifting — because hardware itself only understands bits and voltages. 🔑 Why it matters for embedded engineers: You can optimize memory on resource-limited devices. You understand what really happens when you set/clear a register bit. You can debug protocol-level data (like UART/I2C/SPI frames). You gain confidence moving from high-level C code down to the hardware level. 📚 This kind of knowledge separates a beginner from a true embedded developer.
