IIT Kanpur launches Anālakṣhya Metamaterial Surface Cloaking System, a revolutionary technology for Defense applications. This textile-based broadband Metamaterial Microwave Absorber offers near-perfect wave absorption across a broad spectrum, significantly enhancing stealth capabilities against Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) imaging. The Anālakṣhya MSCS is the brainchild of Prof. S. Anantha Ramakrishna from Dept. of Physics; Prof. Kumar Vaibhav Srivastava from Dept. of Electrical Engineering; and Prof. Janakarajan Ramkumar from Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Kanpur, developed with their team of talented students: Mr. Gagandeep Singh, Dr. Kajal Chowdhary, and Dr. Abhinav Bhardwaj, along with other PhD scholars. The unveiling event was graced by Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit, AVSM, VM, VSM, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Central Air Command, Indian Air Force, as the Chief Guest, and Lt. Gen. Cherish Mathson, PVSM, SM, VSM, and Air Marshal Rajesh Kumar, PVSM, AVSM, VM, ADC, as the Guests of Honor. Tailored for modern warfare, this cutting-edge innovation strengthens operational capabilities, providing India’s armed forces with advanced tools to maintain strategic superiority and ensure national security. Honoring his stellar contributions to education, research, and technology development, IIT Kanpur confers upon Professor Rajat Moona the prestigious Institute Fellow 2023. Prof. Moona joined the faculty of the Computer Science and Engineering Department in 1991, and supervised numerous PhD scholars, while teaching various courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. His innovative contributions to the computerization of JEE processes, JEE and GATE examinations, and the development of e-governance applications have streamlined operations. As the founding director of IIT Bhilai, he played a pivotal role in establishing the institute's permanent campus. Nationally, Prof. Moona has been integral to various projects, including Electronic Toll Collection, UIDAI, and the National Supercomputing Mission. His leadership in designing EVMs and contributing IT solutions for the Election Commission of India demonstrates his commitment to enhancing technological infrastructure in the country. In recognition of his enduring contributions to institution-building and groundbreaking discoveries in cancer research, IIT Kanpur confers upon Professor PRADIP SINHA the esteemed title of Institute Fellow 2023. Invited to join IIT Kanpur as a visiting faculty member in June 2001, Prof. Sinha played a pivotal role in spearheading the BIO initiative supported by a grant from the Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS). His visionary leadership led to the establishment of the Department of Biological Sciences and Bioengineering (BSBE) in September 2001, where he served as the Founding Head until 2010. Under his guidance, BSBE emerged as a national center of excellence in research and education in biology and bioengineering. A trailblazer in cancer research, Prof. Sinha has utilized Drosophila as a model organism to explore fundamental cancer mechanisms that are difficult to study in humans. More recently, his lab has made significant strides in understanding squamous cell cancer mechanisms, holding immense biomedical and therapeutic potential. IIT Kanpur marks 65 Years of Innovation and Excellence, honoring Alumni and showcasing Defence Innovation. Hon’ble Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh Ji graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The event showcased IIT Kanpur’s legacy in shaping national progress and advancing global knowledge, while recognizing the extraordinary contributions of its alumni, faculty, students, and staff in academia, industry, and society. Shri Rajnath Singh Ji visited a Defence Research, Product, and Incubation Showcase organized by the Startup Incubation and Innovation Centre, IIT Kanpur (incubatoriitk). The Showcase highlighted pioneering solutions from 23 SIIC-incubated startups, presenting advancements in defence technology such as autonomous systems, AI-driven surveillance, and next-generation communication tools. Shri Rajnath Singh Ji engaged with founders and research teams at the exhibition stalls, commending their contributions to enhancing national security. The 65th Foundation Day felicitation ceremony began with a traditional Saraswati Vandana, followed by a warm welcome address by Prof. Manindra Agrawal, Director of IIT Kanpur. Shri Rajnath Singh Ji enphasized that 'In today’s era of technology-driven transformation, India is on the verge of groundbreaking innovation, with institutions like IIT Kanpur driving us forward. As we envision a ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047, I urge our youth to lead India’s journey towards technological self-reliance, especially in critical sectors such as defence. Honouring her stellar contribution in the field of development of novel high strength and toughness nano-structured steels and composites, IIT Kanpur confers upon Prof. Aparna Singh the Young Alumnus Award 2024. Prof. Singh is an accomplished researcher and mentor with a wealth of achievements in her field. Her research extends beyond academia, as she actively collaborates with industry leaders to develop advanced materials such as new wheels using advanced steels and epoxy composites for antennas. Her work is characterised by a holistic perspective that integrates the arts, sciences, and engineering, reflecting her belief in the interconnectedness of diverse fields. Beyond her professional accomplishments, Prof. Singh is a black belt in Taekwondo and a trained Bharatanatyam dancer who performs regularly at the prestigious Kalidasa Theatre in Mumbai. A polyglot with a passion for languages, she has studied Spanish, and French over the past 15 years.
