To accurately gauge the space sector's contribution to India's National GDP and unlock its full potential, a Joint Working Group (JWG) with representatives from IN-SPACe, the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MOSPI), ISRO, DST, DOT and space associations is actively working on a comprehensive estimation methodology. The progress of this vital initiative was reviewed on May 19, 2025, in New Delhi by Shri Saurabh Garg, IAS, Secretary, MoSPI, and Dr. Pawan Goenka, Chairman, IN-SPACe. The JWG is pioneering a new definition of the "space economy" tailored for India, drawing upon global best practices to encompass the entire value chain – upstream, midstream, and downstream activities. This data-driven approach is built upon a structured survey targeting over 790 entities, including government bodies, PSUs, private companies, startups, and research organizations. If your organization is part of the space sector, your participation is crucial. We urge you to contribute your data to this significant endeavor. Your input will directly support the development of informed national policies, attract vital investment, and provide an accurate measure of India's standing within the global space economy. Please submit your data today by visiting the following secured link, to help shape the future of the Indian space sector. https://lnkd.in/gR8tF2gn Pawan Goenka

India is making rapid strides across sectors in realizing a more self-reliant #Bharat. From the time we kicked off private sector participation in the nation’s space sector by 2020, technological integration and revised policies have been bringing in paradigm shifts. With more participation from deep-tech startups and a renewed push for innovation, India is at the threshold to lead the commercial space sector. But, there is also a need to push for more upskilling opportunities for our talented resource pool. IN-SPACe hosts a score of short-term skill development courses in association with ISRO and NGEs. The courses vary from the fundamentals to advanced levels. There are various curricular revisions also that are driving space education nationally. A co-ordinated push and more investment in this segment may be helpful in realizing the goals of a #VikshitBharat. • A proud moment for IN-SPACe and the space industry as our Chairman Dr. Pawan Goenka receives his Padma Shri award today. From a humble beginning as a mechanical engineer, Dr. Goenka quickly rose in prominence across sectors, especially the automotive industry. It was in 2020, with the central government opening India’s space sector to private players, Dr. Goenka took on the role to give wings to India’s private space sector. Dr. Goenka’s visionary role is driving India’s space ambitions with a projected goal of reaching a $44 billion commercial space economy by 2033. Much has been done, and much more are in the pipeline as we move forward with the support of all – the NGEs, academia, government, and others. This recognition to Dr. Goenka gives impetus to the stride India’s private space sector is on. #DrPawanGoenka #PadmaShri #inspace #isro
