A new #Covid19 subvariant has been detected in India. Called NB.1.8.1, this #Omicron offshoot was identified in #TamilNadu in April and has also been reported in 21 other countries. What makes it different? It spreads faster — thanks to mutations that help it bind more easily to human cells and partially evade immunity. But doctors say it does not cause more severe illness. The symptoms so far have been mild: sore throat, fever, and cough — much like the flu. Experts advise the same basics: mask up in crowded spaces, isolate if sick, and stay hydrated. https://lnkd.in/gQ5JG7V9 (Covid, Covid-19, Coronavirus, Omicron)

Guards in Costa Rica have intercepted an unusual prison drug delivery, catching a #cat as it jumped over the periphery fence at night with marijuana and crack taped to its body. The black-and-white feline, carrying over 230 grams of marijuana and 67 grams of crack cocaine in 2 packages, was captured this month at a prison in the canton of Pococi. Some social media commenters poked fun at the incident. "And how many years in prison will the cat get?" one person commented. Others voiced outrage and sympathy for the cat. "How cruel," one commenter wrote. "Poor little kitty."

While electric vehicles (EVs) help combat climate change by cutting greenhouse gas emissions, a new study by Indian researchers highlights an unintended downside: increased air pollution from tyre wear. The study finds that EVs, due to their heavier weight, generate significantly more tiny plastic particles from tyre erosion compared to conventional vehicles.
