Deepak Ballani, Director General of ISMA, in conversation with ET NOW, outlined the outlook for India’s sugar season, highlighting the impact of recent rainfall, ethanol diversion and export prospects. Despite above-normal rainfall, conditions are stabilising and sugar production is expected to hold steady at around 349 lakh tonnes, with mills in key states beginning operations from November 1. Although a few localised areas have reported water stagnation, it’s unlikely to impact yield or recovery while discussions with the government on ethanol production and exports continue.
