For decades, sloth bears roamed India’s forests largely unnoticed, overshadowed and rarely celebrated for their vital role in ecosystems. Shaggy-coated, termite-loving, and fiercely protective of their young, these bears quietly help maintain forest health, spreading seeds and aerating soil as they forage. Today, Wildlife SOS is changing that. Through decades of rescues, research, and conservation efforts, hundreds of sloth bears once trapped in cruelty now have a second chance at life and their stories are helping the world see why they matter. This #WorldSlothBearDay, join us in celebrating India’s native bear and supporting efforts to protect these extraordinary creatures. About us
Wildlife SOS, since it’s inception in 1995, has launched various initiatives to protect India’s endangered animals as well as their natural habitat; including anti-poaching activity, rescue and rehabilitation facilities and in-situ habitat conservation. Our holistic programs have helped tribal communities move away from their dependency on commercial use of wildlife and illegal wildlife trade, turning instead to sustainable and long term trades. Wildlife SOS has been nurtured and grown from humble beginnings, by committed, dedicated individuals with passion and has now become one of the premier wildlife rescue organisations in the world. It’s internationally respected track record speaks for itself.

World Sloth Bear Day 2025 Sloth bears are an integral part of India’s rich wildlife heritage, playing a vital role in maintaining the ecological balance by dispersing seeds, controlling insect populations, and contributing to forest regeneration. Yet, they once faced immense cruelty through the practice of street performances. Thanks to the tireless efforts of Kartick Satyanarayan, co-founder of Wildlife SOS, this inhumane practice was brought to an end. His leadership in the rescue, rehabilitation, and conservation of sloth bears has given these animals a second chance at life in safety and dignity. We are proud to partner with Wildlife SOS, whose work continues to protect and preserve India’s wildlife and natural ecosystems for future generations. Wildlife SOS recently had the pleasure of hosting a delegation of beauty queens, led by Danielle Latimer, Miss Universe Great Britain 2025, at our Elephant Conservation & Care Centre and India’s first Elephant Hospital in Mathura. Amid the gentle rustle of trees and the company of our rescued elephants, they spent time with caregivers and veterinarians, learning about the challenges these animals have faced, from lives of begging and performance to the healing and care they receive today. Their voices, echoing across continents, help shine a brighter light on the plight of Asian elephants and the urgent need for their protection. Swipe to see moments from their day volunteering and supporting our elephants.

She was just a baby when tragedy struck. While crossing the tracks with her mother and herd, Bani was hit by a speeding train. Her mother didn’t survive. Paralysed and terrified, Bani was left behind, unable to even stand. That’s when Wildlife SOS stepped in. The team rushed her to their Elephant Hospital Campus in Mathura, where dedicated vets and caregivers began round-the-clock treatment. From painful physiotherapy sessions and warm oil massages to carefully measured feeds and constant monitoring, every small step was a victory. Slowly, Bani started responding. She now stands a little longer, walks a few steps, and even splashes happily in water baths. Today, she’s surrounded by love and care. Her journey is far from over, but with Wildlife SOS by her side and your support, there is hope. You can help Bani heal.💙 Donate here: https://lnkd.in/dEx894kd Wildlife SOS #BaniTheElephant #WildlifeSOS #SaveElephants #AnimalRescue #ElephantHospital #IndiaWildlife #DonateNow [Baby elephant rescue, Wildlife SOS, Bani elephant rescue story, Heartwarming]

On #ElephantAppreciationDay, we celebrated not only the remarkable rescued elephants at our centres but also the trust and beautiful bond they share with their caregivers. Many of these elephants come from difficult and challenging pasts. Building a connection with them can take years, yet every moment of trust gained is a testament to patience, care, and understanding. Here's to all the caregivers of the Wildlife SOS family!

Wildlife SOS was proud to be part of the India Clean-Up Confluence 2025, a space that brought together inspiring citizen-led movements and changemakers working for a cleaner, kinder planet. Our Co-founder & CEO, Kartick Satyanarayan, spoke on the opening panel “Shared Earth: A Cleaner Coexistence with the Animal Kingdom”. He shared stories from Wildlife SOS’ 30 year journey, emphasizing on how our Kalandar Rehabilitation Programme ended the exploitation of ‘dancing’ bears and why protecting animals is vital to our planet’s health. A heartfelt thank you to Carter Cleanup, Greenmyna, and Upadhyaya Foundation for bringing together such an important conversation.

From tears to triumph: Raju turns 11 in freedom! Today, Raju celebrated 11 beautiful years of love, care, and second chances at Wildlife SOS with a grand feast of watermelons, bananas, and mangoes, his favorite treats. But Raju’s journey was not always this joyful. Snatched from his mother as a calf, he spent 50 painful years in chains, forced to beg on scorching streets. Spiked shackles cut into his legs, bullhooks left scars and abscesses, and he walked endless miles every day, hungry, wounded, and heartbroken. On July 4, 2014, everything changed. Wildlife SOS, with the support of the Uttar Pradesh Forest Department and kind souls across the globe, rescued Raju in a two-day operation. That night, for the first time, Raju cried not from pain but from relief. Since then, he has blossomed into a happy, healthy, and playful elephant, splashing in his pool and living every day surrounded by kindness. #BreakingNews 🚨 In a landmark verdict, six members of a notorious tiger poaching gang have been convicted and sent to jail under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. This rare conviction follows a 2-year-long joint operation led by Wildlife SOS along with the Tamil Nadu Wildlife Crime Control Bureau, forest department & police, which resulted in the gang being caught red-handed with tiger and leopard remains in Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve. This judgment sends a strong message: crimes against India’s national animal will not go unpunished. #WildlifeSOS #TigerConservation #EndWildlifeCrime #JusticeForTigers Kartick Satyanarayan Geeta Seshamani Suvidha Bhatnagar Sandhi Priya Rishabh Mehta
