India’s innovation journey needs more than bold funding- it needs strategic execution. The ₹1 lakh crore RDI scheme is a landmark initiative, but its true impact will depend on how we bridge the gap between invention and adoption. Global lessons, especially from China, show that success comes from targeted sectoral focus, domestic market creation, and a commitment to scaling proven technologies.   India must support not just R&D, but also demand creation through purchase commitments, milestone-based funding, and competitive scaling. Only then can we build a product-driven economy and move closer to our vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047.   These ideas are explored in a recent CNBC-TV18 article I co-authored with Mahesh Deodhar, Research Fellow at the Centre for Sustainable Energy and Mobility, Pune International Centre. The concept design of Bharat Small Modular Reactor (BSMR) had been completed as of April 2025, and a detailed engineering design of nuclear and non-nuclear systems has been taken up. In the Union Budget 2025-26, a Nuclear Energy Mission was unveiled to focus on developing Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) with Rs 20,000 crore allocated for the programme, that will develop at least five indigenously designed and operational SMRs by 2033.

MAHINDRA shows aggresive growth in commercial vehicle sales ahead of TATA. FADA SALES july. July 2025 commercial-vehicle sales were essentially flat year-on-year (76,439 vs 76,261; +0.23%), but beneath the headline lie meaningful shifts that merit strategic attention. Tata remains the market leader (25,244 units) but recorded an 8.6% decline, while Mahindra & Mahindra (20,442) grew 7.4%, narrowing the gap. Ashok Leyland and VECV posted modest gains, Maruti’s CV entry shows steady traction, and Daimler saw a notable drop (-9.7%). “Others” surged ~89% from a low base — a sign of fragmentation and emerging niche players. Implications: the segment is sensitive to fleet replacement cycles, freight demand and financing availability. OEMs must balance volume protection with margin management, accelerate product / powertrain differentiation (incl. BEV & CNG), and strengthen customer financing and after-sales. For fleets, total-cost-of-ownership and resale value are increasingly decisive
