Hyderabad-based Marut Drones has secured DGCA Type Certification for its surveillance quadcopter, the Skyswift 56, marking it as the first Indian company with dual recognition in both drone manufacturing and training. Designed for surveillance, mapping, and field training, the Skyswift 56 packs into a backpack and can be deployed in under two minutes, making it a rapid-response tool for frontline needs. “Skyswift 56 is built to empower frontline personnel with silent, compact, and high-precision drone surveillance tools,” said Prem Kumar V, CEO and co-founder of Marut Drones. With features such as thermal imaging, 24MP mapping support, 4K surveillance, and noiseless operation, the drone is engineered for covert reconnaissance, patrolling, law enforcement, and public safety missions. Built with weather-resistant and shock-absorbent materials, it can reach speeds up to 15 m/s while cutting costs and improving detection efficiency. The certification comes as India’s drone market is projected to grow from $145 million in 2024 to over $630 million by 2030, even as the industry struggles with a shortage of skilled drone pilots. With over one lakh drones already in use, and the number expected to hit one million by 2027, Marut says certified systems like Skyswift 56 will play a key role in strengthening training programmes and bridging the skills gap. Other startups, including ideaForge Technology Limited and AVPL International, have also received DGCA approvals this year to train drone pilots across different categories. But Marut emphasizes that addressing the talent shortage is critical: “The lack of skilled pilots could slow India’s UAV growth,” the company noted, adding that upskilling could unlock employment worth more than ₹6000 crore. Hyderabad-based spacetech startup Skyroot Aerospace has successfully conducted the first static test of its KALAM 1200 solid rocket motor, the first stage of the Vikram-1 launch vehicle. The test was carried out at 9:05 a.m. on Aug. 8, 2025, at the Static Test Complex of the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC), Sriharikota, under the ISRO and the Department of Space. Measuring 11 meters in length and 1.7 meters in diameter, the monolithic composite motor has a propellant mass of 30 tonnes and is the longest of its kind prepared at the Solid Propellant Plant in Sriharikota. Delighted to share our investment in VyomIC 🥳 VyomIC is building Bharat’s first and largest private global satellite constellation to deliver highly accurate, secure, and sovereign Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) services from Low Earth Orbit 🛰 They recently announced a $1.6M Pre-Seed round led by Speciale Invest with participation from us (DeVC) and BYT Capital Founders Lokesh Kabdal, Vibhor Jain, and Anurag Patil met at IIT-Madras & have a deep shared context from working together on the Avishkar Hyperloop project The Govt has made a major push for localization in the Defense goods production & supply chain with DPEPP 2020 & several PLI schemes VyomIC has previously achieved two technical breakthroughs: (1) Their RTK (Real Time Kinematic) technology has 2-3cm accuracy, augmenting the standard 3-5 mts accuracy of GPS. (2) Their proprietary architecture and technology to optimize the number of satellites in the constellation and reduce the dependence on ground stations. Further development of the VyomIC constellation will provide the cm-level precision and security (jamming and spoofing proof signals) required for dual (civilian & defense) use-cases e.g., directing (drone) swarm-based weapons to targets or directing emergency response drones to a victim in need of medical help.
