Improving access to affordable products is an important contribution to gender equality. SAMEER AFRICA LIMITED(FORMERLY FIRESTONE EAST AFRICA) PLC has undertaken a significant pivot over the last decade, shifting from tyre manufacturing and distribution to becoming a key player in the industrial real estate sector. In 2012, before a major accounting reclassification, Sameer Africa was widely recognized for its Yana tyre brand, a market leader contributing significantly to the company’s total revenue of KShs 4.08 billion. Manufactured goods, predominantly tyres, accounted for 86.8% (KSh 3.54 billion), complemented by imported tyres, which contributed another 10.5% (KShs 429.2 million) while rental income represented just 3.0% (KSh 122.7 million). Pankaj Bedi, Chair of the Apparels Manufacturers and Exporters (EPZ) at the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) and a Board Director, recently penned a compelling opinion piece that featured on Business Daily Africa titled “Why Africa, US must jointly champion renewal of Agoa.” In the article, he raises the alarm that with barely days left before the expiry of the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), there is still no clarity on whether the programme will be renewed, even temporarily. He highlights that this uncertainty poses a grave risk to Africa’s apparel and textile exports, which have thrived under the duty-free access AGOA provides to the US market. [JICA × Yanmar Agribusiness Co., Ltd. ーAgricultural Mechanization in Côte d'Ivoire 🇨🇮] JICA is promoting the mechanization of agriculture that supports the development of Côte d'Ivoire and is trying to solve various issues such as labor shortages, low productivity, and lack of funds. Yanmar Agribusiness Co., Ltd., a Japanese agricultural machinery manufacturer, is aiming to develop mechanization services that enable the acquisition of various agricultural data and JICA is supporting the creation of its business development plans.
