Shivalik Small Finance Bank (SSFB) has raised INR 100 crore in equity funding, led by SMBC Asia Rising Fund, a corporate venture capital fund co-founded by Japan’s Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation. Existing investors Accel, Quona Capital, Lightspeed, and Sorin Investments also took part in the round. Elev8 Venture Partners, a new-age venture capital firm founded by former Kae Capital partner Navin Honagudi, has successfully closed its maiden fund at ₹1,400 crore (approximately $160 million), marking one of the largest growth-stage fund closures in India this year. The fund, originally targeting $200 million, reached a strategic close with strong commitments from domestic and international backers, including KB Investment, a South Korean financial powerhouse which anchored nearly 20% of the fund. Other LPs include sovereign wealth funds, unicorn founders, and family offices from India, Hong Kong, and the Middle East. Elev8 is positioning itself in a space that many Indian VCs still tread cautiously growth-stage tech startups with a clear path to profitability. The firm has already deployed one-third of the fund across five standout companies: Astrotalk, IDfy, smallcase, Porter, and Snapmint. These startups are scaling rapidly, with many reporting annual growth rates above 30% while maintaining positive unit economics. The fund plans to invest in 12–14 companies, targeting ticket sizes of $10–15 million per investment, focusing on companies valued between $100–300 million. The remaining capital is expected to be deployed over the next 12–18 months. At Indian Venture and Alternate Capital Association (IVCA) CAT III Summit 2025, Shri Pavan Shah, General Manager, International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA), joined a fireside chat spotlighting the expanding fund management ecosystem in GIFT City, with a special focus on CAT III alternative investment funds (AIFs). The discussion covered recent policy reforms, regulatory priorities, and the strategic advantages of operating from GIFT City. It also highlighted the rapidly developing network of ecosystem enablers, including banks, custodians, fund administrators, and trusteeship companies that are strengthening its position as a hub for alternative investments. He noted, “In a short time span of three years, we have seen more than 165 CAT III AIFs set up in the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA), with more than $10 billion in commitments and funds raised about $5 billion. CAT III AIFs in GIFT which invest in Indian listed securities, unlike other offshore jurisdictions, are permitted to have more than 50% participation from the Indian diaspora.
