Mphasis has quietly emerged as one of the most aggressive adopters of AI in Indian IT, securing record contract wins worth $760 million in the June quarter, with 68% of them AI-led. According to Ramanathan Srikumar (Sri), CSO of Mphasis, this success stems from early bets like Next Labs, launched in 2015, which has been experimenting with AI and even quantum computing. “We started playing with LLMs when it was not in the popular lexicon,” Srikumar said, adding that the focus has always been on cutting down routine work to maximise the productivity of domain experts. From embedding AI agents into workflows to launching its flagship platforms NeoCrux and NeoZeta, Mphasis is reshaping enterprise IT. NeoCrux integrates AI agents into developer IDEs to boost SDLC productivity, while NeoZeta modernises legacy systems by unlocking hidden knowledge. The firm even briefly topped Hugging Face’s DABStep challenge, outperforming tech giants like Google and Microsoft. “The ability to write multi-step reasoning agents and our experience in automating processes helped,” Srikumar noted. Strategic partnerships also play a crucial role in Mphasis’ AI strategy. The company recently partnered with Sixfold for AI-powered underwriting, won an AWS Partner Award for the airline industry, and is co-developing a financial services product platform with AWS. “Partnerships are extremely important in this field because we can’t do everything,” said Srikumar, stressing that Mphasis focuses on domain-specific collaborations that drive customer value. At a time when mid-sized IT firms are leveraging AI as the great equaliser, Mphasis is redeploying margins into AI investments rather than stretching profits. “IT service is not going to die. It’s only the nature of service that is going to change,” Srikumar said, aligning with Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani’s belief that Indian IT will not only survive the AI wave but thrive.
