Proud to Share: India’s First ESG Framework for Healthcare Is Here! Thrilled to have co-authored a landmark initiative—India’s first Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) Framework for Healthcare. In a country where healthcare access is a fundamental need and climate vulnerability is a lived reality, we urgently needed a framework that goes beyond greenwashing—one that measures what truly matters: access, equity, safety, resilience, and ethical care delivery. This framework—developed by Aspire Impact and led by the indefatigable Amit Bhatia facilitating us 15 co-authors representing leading hospitals, pharma companies, diagnostic firms, and impact investors—offers: 107 indicators, including 27 healthcare-specific metrics A dual-rating system capturing both ESG risks and opportunities A shared language for sustainability, transparency, and trust At Ujala Cygnus we’ve already begun operationalizing this vision by becoming India’s first hospital group to recycle e-waste, in partnership with Karo Sambhav It’s an example of how we can lead from the front when given the right tools and metrics. Although it took many months of iterations with sometimes long arguments on some metrics, the end result is supremely satisfying. This is not just a document—it’s an invitation. To investors: fund what’s future-proof and inclusive. To healthcare leaders: build systems that heal without harming. To policymakers: embed sustainability into accreditation and procurement.
