Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) has announced a ₹600 crore investment to establish its first dedicated EV two-wheeler manufacturing plant at Narasapura, Karnataka. This marks a pivotal step in Honda’s commitment to electric mobility and India’s growing EV ecosystem. The facility, spread next to Honda’s existing Narasapura plant, will initially focus on popular EV models like the Activa e: (with swappable battery) and QC1 (fixed battery, ~80 km range). With production aimed at both domestic and export markets, the new plant positions India as a global hub for Honda’s EV two-wheeler strategy. Beyond scooters, this project is set to generate new employment opportunities, strengthen Karnataka’s role as an auto-EV hub, and boost allied sectors such as electronics, semiconductors, and component manufacturing. CCI Clears Renault’s Full Acquisition of RNAIPL from Nissan The Competition Commission Of India has approved Renault Group’s acquisition of Nissan’s stake in their Indian manufacturing joint venture—Renault Nissan Automotive India Pvt Ltd (RNAIPL). This move marks a strategic shift in the Renault-Nissan alliance’s India operations. Renault will now take 100% ownership of RNAIPL, the key manufacturing base for both brands, while Nissan will continue to utilise the plant under a contract manufacturing agreement. The RNAIPL facility in Oragadam, Chennai has been operational since 2010, producing high-volume models such as the Kwid, Triber, Magnite, and Kiger. While Nissan exits manufacturing ownership, both companies will retain their stake in the Renault Nissan Technology & Business Center India (RNTBCI), continuing collaboration on engineering and support functions. Renault is set to introduce four new models based on the CMF-B platform starting next year, while Nissan has committed to investing €700 million and launching six new models to double its sales in India by 2026.
