Stop asking freshers for portfolios if you're not willing to be their first client. It's a TRAP! Show me your work.  But I need a client to create work.  Then I can't hire you. We need to break this cycle. I see it every day on LinkedIn. Newbies offering services - video editing, design, content writing. They've learned the skill.  They're ready.  They're putting themselves out there. But they can't land their first client. And here's the sad part: Most of them give up. Not because they lack talent. But because no one gave them a chance. Let me tell you about my first project. I was paid ₹150 to write an article. ₹150. Most people would laugh at that rate. But I didn't care about the money. I cared about proving myself. So I gave it everything I had. I researched. I rewrote. I polished every sentence. I treated that ₹150 project like it was worth ₹15,000. And you know what happened? The client loved it. He came back. Again. And again. Eventually, he became a retainer client. And he increased my pay, based on the quality of my work. Here's what people don't understand about hiring freshers: - When you hire someone experienced, you get competence. - When you hire a fresher, you get hunger. - You get someone who's learned a skill and is dying to prove they can deliver. - You get fresh ideas, creative energy, and someone who will go the extra mile, because this isn't just another project to them. It's their first. And firsts are always special. But, most freshers never get that first shot. They spend months learning a skill. They build portfolios. They cold DM. They post on LinkedIn. And after months of rejection, they give up. They leave a field they could've thrived in, simply because no one believed in them early enough. So, if you're hiring, give a fresher a chance. A small project. A trial. A test assignment. You're not doing them a favor. You're giving yourself access to someone who will pour everything into making it work. Someone who's eager, creative, and willing to go above and beyond, because they need this to work. And if you're a fresher reading this: Don't stop, buddy! Your first client is out there. And when you find them, give them everything you've got. Make that first project so good they can't help but come back. Because once you prove yourself once, the rest becomes easier. P.S. Founders, here's a challenge: Give one fresher a paid project this month. A trial post. A test design. One LinkedIn graphic. You might just find your next long-term partner. And if nothing else, you'll change someone's life. :)

I’ve been a writer for 5 years now. Here are my top tips for success: 1. Stare at the screen until the screen blinks first. 2. Edit a sentence 37 times, then delete it entirely. 3. Drink coffee like it’s a personality trait. 4. Convince yourself you need to “research” by reading 19 unrelated articles. 5. Call it a draft so no one expects stability. Hope this helps😃

When it comes to content, most people think the hard part is writing. But I think the hard part is actually deciding what to write about. That’s where content strategy comes in. When I started creating, I used to sit and ask myself, “What should I post today?” Sometimes, an idea pops and sometimes it doesn't. And honestly, that’s what makes most people give up, they think they’ve run out of things to say. Here’s a simple way to handle your content game: 1️⃣ Think in pillars → Choose 3 to 4 areas you want people to know you for. For me, that’s content writing, freelancing, visibility, and personal lessons. These are my anchors. 2️⃣ Break them into themes → Each pillar can be broken down into smaller topics. For example, under content writing, I can talk about hooks, storytelling, structure, editing, or even the mistakes writers make. Suddenly, one pillar becomes 10+ ideas. 3️⃣ Rotate and repeat → Instead of trying to reinvent new things daily, I rotate between these pillars. And when I revisit a topic, I share it with a new example, story, or angle. People don’t get tired of hearing the same thing when it’s said in different ways. Now, you don’t struggle to find content ideas. You become consistent without burning out. And most importantly, people begin to associate you with those topics. PS: Because here’s the thing: if your content is about everything, people won’t remember you for anything.

Slow writing is a career killer for Content Writers. When I'm training writers, one of the skills newer folks tend to struggle with is writing capacity. Can you write lots of words, fast, and have the words be high quality? This is a SKILL you can train. Here are a few practical strategies I've found to be helpful for increasing writing capacity. I've been testing these myself as I've been working on a book. (1) Never start drafting in front of an empty page. Outlining and research make drafting so much easier. Writer's block either means you're too scared to say what you mean, or you just don't have a plan. The latter can easily be solved by outlining. Or, at the very least, pick the topic you want to write about before you sit down to write. (2) Aggressively increase your output goals. I recently noticed something interesting. For the first few months of drafting my book, I set a wordcount goal of 1000 words per day. It'd take me about 2 hours of writing to get here. As an experiment, I bumped my word count goal to 2000. For the past few days, I've hit that, no problem, in the same amount of time it previously took me to crank out 1000. And even on days when I fall short of the 2000, I'll still manage to hit 1000+ words much faster. (3) Manage your headspace. If you view capacity as a skill you can train, you will increase it. If you view capacity as preset genetic destiny that you have no input over, learning to write faster will feel impossible. Don't allow yourself to be overwhelmed by the idea of writing more. Remember, it is a skill. Skills are learnable. You'll notice none of these ideas is that complicated. Increasing your writing capacity just comes down to writing more, having a plan when you do it, and keeping yourself in a good mental state. Save this post for your next content writing session.

I edit 500–600 posts/month, and these are the same 3 mistakes I see… 1) The hook gives away the whole post Don’t summarise. Make the readers curious and specific. Skip the bogus “Ever seen…/Imagine if…”. Try lines like: “At 2:45 pm yesterday, one line in a deck changed my week.” “Our costliest mistake wasn’t money. It was ego.” “I was wrong about X. Here’s proof.” 2) You start writing before you know the core Decide your one emotion/message/thought first, then write (or use AI). Something which you can use to vet “This post says ___ for ___ because ___.” If this is clear, the draft takes 5 minutes. 3) You don’t map the post. Make a 1-minute mind map before research: Counterpoint: what’s the smart pushback? One number that actually shifts belief. Example: a real scene Stakes: what happens if we ignore this? Analogy: the simple bridge that makes it click. Do these three: Hook → Core → Map & end with a sweet conclusion that pulls people in for a comment, you’re good to go! Cheers, Pooja

Outsourcing content doesn’t mean lowering standards. Here are 3 ways to find freelance writers who sound like in-house. ✅ Finding a good freelance writer is not hard. But finding a good freelance writer who gets your brand and product? That's hard. 🤷‍♀️ I've been a B2B tech writer for +10 years. If I were to outsource content, this is what I would do: 👉 Look for a content writer OR a copywriter. Be clear about what you need. Content writers inform and educate. Copywriters persuade and sell. They have different strengths and purposes. Need both? Hire both, but know the difference. 👉 Look for a writer with industry experience. This can be as broad as picking a tech writer for a tech company. Or as niche as picking a tech writer specializing in ransomware for a company providing cybersecurity software. 👉 Start with a one-off project. Before signing up for a long-term collab, assign the freelancer to a one-off project where you get a chance to review the writing on a topic of your choice. I always offer this to clients to make sure that we're a good fit. Don't: ❌ Settle for mediocre content or copy. ❌ Hire writers who take more time than they save. ❌ Give up.
