Rs 100 Crore R&D Fund for Startups in Green Hydrogen The global clean energy transition is accelerating–& India is making bold moves to lead the Green #Hydrogen economy Under the #NGHM, the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy #MNRE has now announced a Rs 100 Cr R&D Fund exclusively for startups, inviting pilot project proposals for innovative hydrogen production & utilization pathways. 10 Key Highlights of the Fund 1 Mission Context–This fund is aligned with NGHM’s broader goal of positioning India as a global hub for production, usage & export of Green Hydrogen & its derivatives 2 Purpose–To support startups that are developing cutting-edge Green Hydrogen solutions– enabling innovation beyond traditional large-scale plants 3 Scheme Structure Part A: 100 Cr for biomass & other tech-based pilot projects (up to 25 Cr support per project) Part B: 100 Cr for startups in hydrogen innovation (up to 5 Cr per project) 4 Eligibility–Only DPIIT-recognized startups (incorporated in India, <10 years old, turnover <100 Cr) can apply. Indian ownership must be at least 51% 5 Focus Areas Production: Seawater electrolysis, direct photo-electrolysis, hybrid renewable integration, advanced electrolyzer membranes, novel derivative production (ammonia, syngas) Storage & Transport: LOHC, solid-state storage, ionic liquids/MOFs, modular pipelines, hydrogen carriers like ammonia/methanol, AI-driven logistics. Safety: Smart leak detectors, nanocomposite coatings against embrittlement, hydrogen fire suppression systems Applications: Aviation, hydrogen cooking, turbines for power, hydrogen-powered gensets, CHPs, low-cost refueling stations, diesel locomotive retrofitment, Power-to-X industrial decarbonization 6 Funding Model – Startups can receive up to ₹5 Cr (80% of equipment cost) per project. Grants will be released in four installments linked to milestones (20% + 20% + 50% + 10%) 7 Technology Readiness Level (TRL) – Projects should currently be at TRL 3–4 (proof-of-concept/lab prototype) & aim to scale up to TRL 6–8 (pre-commercial/market-ready stage) during the project 8 IPR Framework–Intellectual property generated must stay in India. #SustainableGrowth IOC GPS Renewables Private Limited (IGRPL), a 50:50 joint venture between Indian Oil Corp Limited and GPS Renewables, has raised a landmark INR 836 crore (approx. $95 million) in non-recourse debt financing from Indian Bank. This represents the largest single-bank debt raise in India’s Compressed Biogas (CBG) or Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) sector. The funds will execute nine CBG projects across India, including sites in Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Andhra Pradesh. Each plant will produce 15 tonnes of CBG daily using paddy straw as feedstock, with all projects expected to commission by 2026.
