Polycab’s promoters take some chips off the table – a natural outcome of wealth creation! Polycab promoters sold ~1.5% stake today. Promoter holding has dipped from approx 68.5% to ~61.5% now, and that makes some investors uneasy. But let’s put this in perspective: 1. Since its IPO, Polycab’s market cap has grown ~13.5x+ – from ₹8,100 Cr then to ₹1.13 Lakh Cr 2. Back then, the promoter’s 68% stake was worth ~₹5,500 Cr. Today by selling just 1.5%, it helps them unlock ~₹1700 Cr. 3. On the fundamentals they have done a solid job in scaling up a. Revenues grew 5x (₹4,000 Cr in FY14 → ₹22,400 Cr in FY25E) b. EBITDA grew 9x+ (₹300 Cr → ₹2,964 Cr) In other words, the business has compounded strongly & the promoter still holds a clear majority. For them to monetize a small portion after creating such value seems perfectly rational. Sometimes a promoter reducing stake isn’t a red flag, it’s just prudent portfolio management. “#Safety is not an expense—it is an investment in the resilience of our events.” At the IESA Expo Shop, I had the privilege of moderating a session on Crisis Management in the Events Industry, with industry stalwarts Sudhir Dhavan , Satyendra Mehra, Ubaid Ahmad. We explored how true preparedness isn’t reactive—it’s proactive. Crisis management in events must be planned deeply, invested in strategically, and executed collaboratively across organizers, venues, and service providers. A few key lessons stood out: Deep planning is non-negotiable. Tragedies like the RCB stampede during Bengaluru’s IPL victory celebrations exposed the dangers of inadequate coordination, poor crowd communications, and lack of safety infrastructure. The state report specifically cited missing legal clearances, misinformation spread via social media, and failure in crowd gate management as critical failures. Holistic coordination saves lives. From the RCB incident to massive gatherings like Mahakumbh, lessons repeatedly show that isolated responses fail. Effective crisis management requires a unified approach — everyone from planners and communicators to emergency responders must work as a seamless team. Safety trains trust. Events aren’t just gatherings—they’re platforms for communities, economies, and reputations. Embedding safety protocols builds credibility and ensures the experience stays memorable for the right reasons. What this means for us in the industry: 1. Start with an Integrated Crisis Plan — Define clear roles, establish communication protocols, and rehearse plausible scenarios in advance. 2. Invest in Safety Infrastructure — From medical support to crowd-control tech and wayfinding systems—it’s a strategic investment, not an overhead. 3. Facilitate Real-Time Coordination — From central control rooms to live notifications, stakeholders must respond as one. 4. Learn—and Relearn—from Case Studies — Whether it’s an event in Bengaluru or global festivals, understanding past failures informs stronger futures. Got wrongly enrolled into EPS? 😓 Here’s the real struggle when you seek corrections: 👉 Entries till FY24 will get fixed. 👉 But for service days of FY25 or FY26, be ready to wait endlessly. Why? Because EPFO fixes things only after the interest credit cycle closes — and backlog makes it worse. 👉 And no, they won’t do it in one shot.
