🚀 Big Move in India’s Electronics Manufacturing! Dixon Technologies India Ltd. has announced a ₹370 crore joint venture with China-based HKC Overseas Ltd. to set up Dixon Display Technologies Pvt. Ltd. (DDTPL). 🔹 Focus: Manufacturing LCD & TFT-LCD modules – key components for smartphones, TVs, monitors, and automotive displays. 🔹 Expansion: The JV will also assemble finished products like smartphones, televisions, and monitors, with scope to introduce HKC-branded devices in India. 🔹 Structure: Dixon will hold 74% stake, while HKC will invest for 26% ownership. #FutureOfTech Kaynes Semicon Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of Kaynes Technology India Limited, is pivoting to become an Original Design Manufacturer (ODM), according to CEO Raghu Panicker. "We want to be an original design manufacturer (ODM) company, that's the vision for our second innings," Panicker stated. He announced aggressive plans, aiming for $100 million in revenue within two years. The company is investing $150 million over the next year in new technologies, including silicon photonics and 2.5D/3D ICs. Kaynes Semicon Pvt Ltd also plans to establish a fab/compound fab, a design lab, and explore indigenous GPU development within three years. The firm entered the semiconductor space with an OSAT plant in Sanand, Gujarat, and plans to roll out its first commercial power chip in October. Panicker is "bullish about India's chip ambition" and aims to be a single, one-stop supplier for the entire chip ecosystem. India’s Semiconductor Revolution: From Design Hub to Manufacturing Powerhouse India’s semiconductor industry is undergoing its most rapid transformation, moving from a design-led ecosystem to full-fledged manufacturing and packaging capabilities under the ₹76,000-crore Semicon India programme, which offers up to 50% fiscal support for fabs, compound semiconductor plants, and ATMP/OSAT units, along with a Design Linked Incentive (DLI) scheme for fabless startups. The flagship project, Tata Electronics’ 300-mm wafer fab in partnership with Taiwan’s PSMC at Dholera, Gujarat approved in February 2024 with an investment of around ₹91,000 crore and designed for mature nodes such as 110/90/55/40/28 nm has moved into active site development with supporting housing and utilities work in progress. In parallel, the advanced packaging sector is ramping up, with Micron’s Sanand ATMP plant progressing toward shipments and the CG Power Renesas Stars OSAT facility under construction, alongside Kaynes Semicon’s 2025 launch target. On August 12, 2025, the Union Cabinet approved four additional projects, including India’s first commercial silicon carbide (SiC) fab in Odisha by SiCSem, a 3D Glass Solutions substrate and packaging unit, an ATMP facility by ASIP in Andhra Pradesh, and an expansion of Continental Device India in Mohali, taking the sanctioned total to 10 facilities across six states with combined investments exceeding ₹1.6 lakh crore. The design ecosystem is also strengthening, with over 22 projects supported under the DLI scheme and significant private capital inflows, while national skilling initiatives aim to train about 85,000 semiconductor engineers by 2027. SCL Mohali, the country’s legacy 180-nm government fab, has issued a global RFP for modernization, and ecosystem players like Lam Research have committed over $1 billion to deepen equipment and talent linkages. With India’s semiconductor market projected to double to $100–110 billion by 2030, the near term will see OSAT plants delivering the first outputs in 2025, followed by wafer production from Dholera in the later years, positioning the country to reduce its heavy chip import dependence and emerge as a credible global hub for semiconductors and advanced packaging.
