H1B $100k just for entry .... :) With average U.S salaries added, one H-1B will now cost approximately $240k. Until US can fill the gap for skilled workers, the GCC India path seems lot brighter!! GCC - Global Capability Centre = For the price of one H1B, you can build an entire team in India. The H1B fee situation is grim for all the H1B immigrants currently in U.S & more unfortunate for those who travelled during this announcement. However, it may be the biggest push yet for India’s GCC boom. The cost of one H-1B doesn’t stop at the entry fee. Adding East Coast salaries (~$140k) and benefits, and the true cost per H-1B hire is ~ $240k/year. Now comparing that to India: 1) $240k = ~22 engineers in Coimbatore or Kochi 2) A 50-seat GCC setup in these tier-2 cities = 2–3 H-1Bs worth of spend in the first year beyond Year 1, costs fall further as setup capex is absorbed IMHO, instead of talented skilled workers standing in queue for visas in U.S consulates across India, it will be the corporates from U.S that will start working various state governments in India. Instead of sponsoring a handful of visas, companies can build entire teams with diverse skills, local leadership, and 24/7 support. Tier-2 cities like Coimbatore and Kochi offer lower costs, rising talent pools, and government incentives. The $100k fee turns H-1B into a “premium bet,” while GCCs become the default growth model. The math is clear: 1 H-1B = 1 engineer in the U.S. $240k = 20+ engineers in India or a 50-person GCC. For Indians, this policy may turn out to be less of a challenge… and more of a once-in-a-generation opportunity.
