The concept design of Bharat Small Modular Reactor (BSMR) had been completed as of April 2025, and a detailed engineering design of nuclear and non-nuclear systems has been taken up. In the Union Budget 2025-26, a Nuclear Energy Mission was unveiled to focus on developing Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) with Rs 20,000 crore allocated for the programme, that will develop at least five indigenously designed and operational SMRs by 2033.

India’s innovation journey needs more than bold funding- it needs strategic execution. The ₹1 lakh crore RDI scheme is a landmark initiative, but its true impact will depend on how we bridge the gap between invention and adoption. Global lessons, especially from China, show that success comes from targeted sectoral focus, domestic market creation, and a commitment to scaling proven technologies. India must support not just R&D, but also demand creation through purchase commitments, milestone-based funding, and competitive scaling. Only then can we build a product-driven economy and move closer to our vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047. These ideas are explored in a recent CNBC-TV18 article I co-authored with Mahesh Deodhar, Research Fellow at the Centre for Sustainable Energy and Mobility, Pune International Centre. Reasons to this were Right product market fit likes Kylaq and Virtus, superior service package for 4 years and superior engineering features!!! Shows that India is not limited to Maruti and Hyundai as most of us believe but with current crop of buyers who are tech focussed and knows the importance of Build , Quality and dynamics are opting for the same. India’s passenger vehicle market in July’25 clocked 3.28 lakh units, showing subtle but telling shifts: • Maruti Suzuki leads at 39.31% share despite a marginal dip. • Hyundai retains 2nd spot at 13.09%, steadying volumes. • Mahindra & Tata are in a close race for 3rd, both above 12% share. • Toyota surges to 7.72%, marking notable growth. • Volkswagen Group grows its pie to 2.44% with a 23% YoY rise. • Emerging players like MG Motor, BYD, and Force Motors continue to carve their niches. 📊 The game is evolving — incumbents hold ground, challengers gain momentum. #market #skoda #vw #automotive
