During the #WBGMeetings, we marked an important milestone with the signing today of a $20 million loan agreement with the Bank of Bhutan in the presence of Honorable Lekey Dorji, Bhutan’s Minister of Finance, Mr. Dasho Penjore, Governor of the Royal Monetary Authority of Bhutan, and Mr. Tshering Tenzin, CEO of the Bank of Bhutan. This marks IFC - International Finance Corporation’s first debt investment in a financial institution in #Bhutan. It aims to expand access to finance for micro and small enterprises. Strengthening the financial sector in this way is vital to enabling business growth, creating jobs, and reducing poverty. This investment reaffirms IFC’s commitment to Bhutan and our determination to drive private sector-led growth and opportunity. IFC Financial Institutions, Imad N. Development finance can and must serve dual purposes; channeling private capital to where it’s needed most while offering investors the returns and portfolio diversification they seek. In my Financial Times op-ed, I explore how a new model of emerging market investing—anchored in securitization—can mobilize private capital at scale and deliver competitive returns. This isn’t just financial innovation. It’s a structural shift toward more inclusive and sustainable global prosperity. #WBGMeetings #EmergingMarkets #securitization #privatecapital

How can we unlock more private capital to create #jobs and opportunities in emerging markets? The World Bank Group’s new securitization program is doing just that—by transforming IFC-originated assets into a diversified investment portfolio accessible to institutional investors. The inaugural $510 million issuance marks the first step toward building a scalable, “originate-to-distribute” model that channels private investment where it’s needed most—fueling business growth, job creation, and #sustainable development.
