Thrilled to share that the Joint Social Protection Programme for Iraq at ILO Arab States - منظمة العمل الدولية، المكتب الاقليمي للدول العربية generously funded by the European Union and in collaboration with ODI Global has just released a new package of publications on social protection in Iraq — from recent trends in social security coverage to policy options for extending social protection to informal workers in agriculture, construction, and manufacturing. 📊 Why does this matter? Because in #Iraq, millions of workers, including in agriculture, construction, and manufacturing sects, remain outside the reach of social security — meaning no protection in case of injury, unemployment, or old age. Expanding coverage to them is not just a policy goal, it’s about dignity, security, and fairness at work. RESULTS: Jordan annual report 2024 Narrative recap of the development cooperation implementation of the ILO programme in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan This report details the organization's efforts and achievements in advancing social justice and decent work in Jordan during 2024. It highlights contributions to Jordan's Economic Modernization Vision (EMV) 2033 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), focusing on creating decent work opportunities, strengthening social protection, promoting gender equality, supporting migrant workers, and aiding Jordan's transition to a green economy. The report also discusses challenges faced, such as meeting some program targets, integrating refugees into the formal labour market, cultural resistance to gender equality, and fiscal constraints in the social protection system. Some of the key achievements in 2024 include: - 8,916 individuals benefited from the creation of 2,032 jobs. - 100,000 trees planted, surpassing the goal of 87,500. - 31,097 individuals received social protection coverage. - 975 people with disabilities were facilitated into employment in the garment sector. - 815 migrant workers received mental health services. - 20 municipal works projects were implemented, exceeding the target of 15. Lessons emphasize the importance of stakeholder collaboration, adaptive and evidence-based approaches, addressing cultural barriers, and leveraging digital tools.
