Iceland Ocean Cluster started as a project at the University of Iceland but is now a full running company which facilitates networking opportunities for ocean related industries in Iceland and worldwide. Its partners consist of leaders in well established, as well as cutting edge firms in ocean related industries. The Iceland Ocean Cluster is located by the old harbor in the Ocean Cluster House at Grandagardur 16, 101 Reykjavík along with 70 other companies working in the marine industry. The role of the Iceland Ocean Cluster is to connect people and businesses in the marine industry. Through stronger networks and cooperation new opportunities for business and innovation arise.

💡 Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming representatives from the Danish Ocean Cluster, Nordsøen Forskerpark - North Sea Science Park, Sotenäs Symbioscentrum, and Port of Hirtshals - Hirtshals Havn. 🐟 Their visit focused on exploring how circular thinking, innovation, and industrial symbiosis are driving sustainable transformation in Iceland’s blue economy. 🌊 As part of the visit, they learned about the story of the Iceland Ocean Cluster, toured the Iceland Eco-Business Park, and visited several companies both in-house and within our wider network. 🌟 It’s always exciting to see growing interest in these topics and to exchange ideas with others committed to building a more sustainable future. Took advantage of the opportunity while in Iceland for the #IFOMC meeting to organise a trip for Pacific Islands friends and colleagues to the Iceland Ocean Cluster to learn about the 100% Fish initiative and how to make more from less. Everyone got to sample #COLLAB, a cod collagen carbonated soft drink and see examples of different value add products ranging from fish leather products to pharmaceuticals. Blue Open House 2025 – Thank You! 🌊 Last week, as part of the very exciting Iceland Innovation Week, we opened the doors of the Iceland Ocean Cluster for our annual Blue Open House – and what an inspiring afternoon it was! From the opening remarks by Dr. Alexandra Leeper PhD (CEO of the Iceland Ocean Cluster) and Guðmundur Kristjánsson (CEO of Brim), to relaxed conversations in every corner of the house, the atmosphere was welcoming, curious, and full of nice exchange. Across the house, guests got to meet the teams behind some of Iceland’s most forward-thinking ocean ventures – from biotech to smart tech, skincare to seafood. The main hall featured companies like Kerecis, LearnCove, Eylíf, Matís Iceland, GreenFish, ASTRID, Feldur Verkstæði, Aquatiq, GeoSalmo, Hefring Marine, GeoSilica Iceland, Marea, Sea Growth, ALVAR, Responsible Food, Ankeri, and Ankra / Feel Iceland – each showcasing how innovation can turn ocean resources into real-world solutions. Startups brought fresh energy to the heart of the house, including Nordic Wasabi, Urri, and Optitog. The Iceland Eco-Business Park was also well represented with exciting ventures such as Thermal Beets Records, ifarm, Rockpore, and Svepparíkið. We were especially honoured to welcome international guests from the Oregon Ocean Cluster, from Highlands and Islands Enterprise in Scotland, and from MRC Côte-de-Gaspé (Quebec) – a great step toward future cross-cluster collaboration. And of course, no innovation event is complete without innovative refreshments – COLLAB drinks made from collagen extracted from fish skin (thanks to Feel Iceland!) kept everyone energised. A massive thank you to all who visited, exhibited, and contributed. You're the reason this community continues to push boundaries in the blue economy!
