How Stuff Works: the Digital Accessibility Edition 🧠💻 Accessibility starts with understanding how people use the web. Ever wondered how people who are blind or have low vision navigate websites? 🌍 Connecting People, Building Accessibility Together 💪 Our recent all-hands week brought together 120 team members from across Europe, and it was a fantastic opportunity to share experiences and learn from one another. Beyond the housewarming party 🎉, the week was filled with workshops led by users with disabilities and assistive technology practitioners, reminding us why we do what we do. We care about people. To give equal access to the web, we first need to understand the barriers people with disabilities face. The better we understand their needs, the better we can craft our products and services. Dajana Gioffrè and Gal Farchi represented AccessiWay at the European Disability Forum Summit in Brussels this week. 🚀 The calibre of speakers was remarkable, with ministers and agency leaders from 🇩🇪 Germany, 🇧🇪 Belgium, 🇸🇪 Sweden and other European countries sharing firsthand how they’re implementing the European Accessibility Act (EAA). Discussions explored the real-world challenges of implementation: what’s working, what’s harder than expected, and how different countries are tackling similar problems in surprisingly different ways. Hearing directly from the people shaping accessibility policy across Europe gave valuable insight into both the challenges and the opportunities ahead.🌍 Events of this scale are vital. They bring together the people who have the power to drive real change, with policymakers, companies, and disability advocates working through these challenges together. Beyond policy, the conversations around AI and accessibility were particularly engaging. There’s a growing focus on using these tools ethically and effectively, to improve digital access for disabled users, rather than just to tick compliance boxes. Huge thanks to the European Disability Forum for organising such an insightful and inspiring summit.🙏💙
