🗓️🏷️ Why does understanding date labels matter? In the EU, up to 10% of food waste comes from misunderstanding food date labels. Knowing how to read these labels is key to enjoy food safely, while saving money and protecting the planet by reducing food waste. Food safety scientists and producers work together to ensure dates are accurate. 🔗 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/dDg5tNJ3

Trusted Science for Safe Food
Chi siamo
Science, safe food, sustainability. EFSA is a decentralised agency of the European Union with headquarters in Parma, Italy. The agency was set up in 2002 following a series of food crises in the late 1990s to be a source of scientific opinions and advice on risks associated with the food chain. Our work forms the basis for the European policies and legislation in the food safety area. Our scientific remit covers: food and feed safety, nutrition, animal health and welfare, plant protection, plant health, and the possible impact of the food chain on the biodiversity of plant and animal habitats. EFSA employs around 565 staff members and works alongside over 1500 external experts. If you are interested in a career at EFSA and wish to contribute to food safety in Europe find more about our work and how to engage with EFSA here on LinkedIn or on our website. Understanding food labels is essential if you want to reduce #FoodWaste. 🗓️🏷️ Do you know the difference between ‘use by’ and ‘best before’? 🛑 ‘Use by’ is about food safety. Food should not be consumed after this date. ✅ ‘Best before’ is about quality. If stored correctly, it's still safe to eat even after this date. 🍎 Did you know apple seeds contain cyanide? Yet eating an apple is safe. It all comes down to exposure. 🎤 In the latest episode of #ScienceOnTheMenu, we explore why the dose makes the poison, how hazards differ from risks and why bodyweight and age influence how we are affected by substances in our food. 🎧 Tune in: https://lnkd.in/dmNCT47x #DietaryExposure #FoodSafety #EFSA

🌍 “One Health in agrifood systems is everyone’s health.” Our Chief Scientist and OHHLEP Co-Chair, Carlos Gonçalo Das Neves, joined FAO’s Science & Innovation Forum at the #WorldFoodForum to discuss the Global Framework for #OneHealth. The high-level forum marked FAO’s 80 years of global leadership in food security and explored how science, partnerships, and innovation can transform agrifood systems for people, animals, plants, and the planet. Carlos highlighted the importance of transdisciplinary science, cross-sectoral governance, and collaboration to build resilient, inclusive, and healthy agrifood systems capable of addressing complex challenges such as antimicrobial resistance, biodiversity loss, and food insecurity. Advancing One Health is not just a scientific endeavour, it’s a shared responsibility to safeguard our collective future. https://lnkd.in/djkctXmx #FoodSystems #ScienceInnovation #WFF2025 #FAO #Partnerships #GlobalHealth

European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) ha diffuso questo post
Happy #WorldFoodDay and to our colleagues at FAO happy 8⃣0⃣🎂! Extremely rewarding to be in Rome representing the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) at the World Food Forum-WWF and Science and Innovation Forum-SIF. A chance to learn from so many inspiring colleagues from across all continents, but also a chance to share some of our work at EFSA together with my colleagues Didier Verloo and Max F. Blanck who teamed up in Rome! Today's main cerimony left a message that should resonate strongly with all. And it came directly from Pope Leo XIV: "At a historic moment marked by deep divisions and contradictions, to feel united by the bond of collaboration is not only a beautiful ideal, but a decisive call to action. We must not be content with filling walls with large, eye-catching posters. The time has come to make a renewed commitment that will have a positive impact on the lives of those who are hungry and expect tangible action from us to lift them out of their misery." #foodsafety remains a key pillar to achieve a more equitable and just world, and the #onehealth approach a way to ensure we achieve this goal also respecting our planetary boundaries. We remain committed at the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), and with FAO and many more.... We are stronger!
