In the 2025 re-edition of Seki-Han, Tobia Scarpa revisits a rare 1963 design that exemplifies his mastery of wood. Crafted from solid Douglas fir, Seki-Han’s intricate construction draws on techniques borrowed from naval architecture. The two wooden blades now rotate around the central light body, creating variable light emission and maintaining a constantly visible sliver of light. Slightly taller than the original, the re-edition also features a redesigned base in raw black iron. The lighting system has been updated with a custom LED source developed by Flos to replace the original fluorescent tube, its warmer tone enhancing the natural materiality and essence of wood that defines the design.

When Tobia Scarpa first designed Seki-Han in 1963, combining wood and light was both experimental and unexpected, and perhaps still is today. The 2025 re-edition revisits that original thinking with renewed precision and contemporary craftsmanship. As part of The Light of the Mind project for Salone del Mobile, Formafantasma and director Nicolò Terraneo explore the creative process and enduring vision behind Scarpa’s timeless design.

Welcome to a new alpine retreat where Flos Outdoor lighting enhances both connection and quiet beauty. Cascata d’Otro Mountain Village, nestled at the foot of Monte Rosa in northern Italy, is a peaceful cluster of apartments whose architecture echoes the contours of the surrounding peaks. In this breathtaking setting, the lighting scheme was designed to illuminate pathways while preserving the landscape’s natural allure. The iconic Bellhop, in both Pole and Bollard versions, adds character and practicality, while Mile Wall by Antonio Citterio and the ultra-compact Heavy Metal blend discreetly into the façades. At the heart of the village, the lake glows with Aimer Aqua, casting a serene glow across the still waters. Ph. Alex Filz Architect G22 Projects GmbH
