🌍 How can we overcome data fragmentation in environmental monitoring? Federated Database Systems might be the key. In many critical fields, the effectiveness of Earth Observation technologies is limited by the heterogeneity of data sources and formats, leading to non-standardized, and often incomparable, results. 🛰️ This challenge can be addressed through Federated Database Systems: a virtual data architecture that integrates multiple datasets and makes them operate as a single, unified entity. At Latitudo 40, we are applying this approach within BeatTheHeat, a European Data Space for Smart Communities project, in collaboration with big data providers, local administrations, and service partners. 🛰️ One of the main barriers to using satellite data: complexity. Inexperienced users are often discouraged from leveraging these fundamental assets for environmental monitoring, as they don’t know how to process and export imagery. 🚀 A solution to democratize geospatial data, however, is emerging from AI agents. Thanks to Large Language Models, systems designed to process and reuse human language, generative AI can make satellite insights accessible through simple chat-based interactions. During a five days immersive innovation sprint at the European Space Agency - ESA Acceleration Days in Brussels, last month Latitudo 40 developed its first fully functional prototype of an AI agent for EarthDataInsights. 🚀 Last week was an important one for the Latitudo 40 family! 🌍 From September 29th to October 3rd, we gathered in Naples for our annual team retreat: a tradition that brings our remote-working team together to exchange ideas, collaborate face to face, and share plenty of fun and unforgettable moments. This year, we explored the heart of Rione Sanità, guided by Anna Perno, better known as Napoli Reale: influencer, storyteller, and true bridge to the city’s soul. We worked side by side, enjoyed amazing pizza at our company dinner , and even welcomed a new team member: Copernico, our beloved foosball table! 🛰️ It’s truly heartwarming to see our team grow year by year. 🛰️ Leveraging geospatial data for infrastructure security.
