In Vietnam, cancer cases have tripled over the past 30 years (source: Ministry of Health statistics), reflecting broader changes in lifestyle and disease patterns. JICA supports the Vietnam National Cancer Hospital in Hanoi by providing medical equipment related to cancer, helping improve the capacity of diagnosis, and treatment and access to care for patients across northern and central regions of the country. Strengthening cancer care requires global cooperation and shared experience. Building resilient health care systems contributes to better health outcomes worldwide.

Indonesia’s Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries held a fisheries technology training for Timor-Leste trainees. Since its independence in 2002, Timor-Leste has been working toward economic diversification beyond oil and gas. Fisheries are seen as a promising sector, and this training focused on sustainable coastal fisheries, drawing on the knowledge and experience Indonesia has built through JICA’s cooperation. This initiative contributes to food security and poverty reduction while promoting knowledge exchange in marine resource management. JICA supports these efforts under the concept of the “Blue Economy,” which aims to balance economic growth with the sustainable use of ocean resources. Feb. 2 is #WorldWetlandsDay ! Wetlands and forests play a critical role in mitigating climate change by storing vast amounts of carbon. In the Peruvian Amazon—one of the world’s largest tropical forest regions—these ecosystems face ongoing pressure from illegal logging and unmanaged land conversion. Through this project, JICA is working with the Government of Peru to strengthen natural resource management by making forests and wetlands visible through advanced mapping and monitoring technologies. In November 2025, high-performance drones were used to map aguaje palm wetlands and support biomass survey planning, enabling more accurate, data-driven conservation efforts. By combining technology with capacity development for local and national institutions, this initiative supports sustainable use of natural resources while contributing to global climate change mitigation. Protecting wetlands means protecting our planet—for present and future generations.
