Here is the latest article of the JPO Quick Reads: "Examination Practice Training Program for the Philippines (Blockchain Field) " by KITAMURA Hiroki, Director-General, Patent and Design Examination Department. The JPO successfully conducted an Examination Practice Training in the field of blockchain for patent examiners in the Philippines! From September 15 to 18, 2025, the JPO held a four-day face-to-face Examination Practice Training Program in the field of blockchain for patent examiners from the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL). Mr. NAMEDA, a JPO patent examiner with extensive practical experience, served as the lead instructor, with Mr. SAKAI, a junior examiner, assisting. A total of sixty-one IPOPHL patent examiners participated in the program. The subject area was selected based on IPOPHL’s request. The participants were assigned to work on case studies using actual patent applications related to blockchain, which helped deepen their understanding of determination methods specific to the field. Several participating IPOPHL examiners commented that the instructor was highly knowledgeable about blockchain and responded kindly to their questions. Others remarked that the program enabled them to gain a deeper understanding of emerging blockchain technologies. The JPO will continue to cooperate with examiners in the Philippines and other emerging countries, particularly in the area of patent examination practices, thereby contributing to the development and strengthening of examination systems in each country!
