The Busia Community of Practice (COP), anchored by Dhamira Moja CBO, is a strong example of how promoting Community Philanthropy can strengthen local ownership of the development agenda and drive community-led development and disaster risk reduction. Speaking at the Disaster Risk Reduction Symposium in Busia, held in honour of the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction (October 13), Sarah Martha, Executive Director of Dhamira Moja, shared how the COP works with local organisations and the county government to prepare the community in case of a disaster occurrence, especially in areas prone to flooding like Budalangi. By pooling resources and support, the COP helps communities displaced by floods while building long-term resilience. Through KCDF’s Change the Game Academy, members have also been trained in local fundraising and advocacy, enabling them to take the lead in solving local challenges. The Busia Community of Practice, anchored by Dhamira Moja CBO, with the support of KCDF and Wilde Ganzen has made notable progress since its launch in April 2023, with 69 member organisations actively engaged.
