At Africa E-Mobility Week 2025, Damien Gueroult, Country Manager, Watu Uganda, joined industry leaders to discuss one of the biggest questions shaping Africa’s EV journey: how do we make electric two-wheelers affordable and accessible for all? The discussion explored how financing plays a critical role in overcoming upfront cost barriers and how innovative models like pay-as-you-go and Battery-as-a-Service are unlocking access for low-income earners. Damien shared, “True affordability goes beyond cost. It is about access, policy, and partnerships that connect financing, technology, and infrastructure.” With growing momentum across the continent and global recognition of transport as central to climate goals, financiers play an essential role in bridging the gap between innovation and inclusion. Watu Credit reposted this
Honored to have given the strategic brief to set the tone at the Electric Mobility Association of Kenya (EMAK) 3rd Quarterly Roundtable 2025 event themed “Financing the Shift: Unlocking Capital for Kenya’s E-Mobility Transition.” The discussions were rich and forward-looking; from blended finance and de-risking mechanisms to innovative end-user and asset financing models shaping the EV ecosystem. It was especially encouraging to see the growing role of inclusive financiers, including MFIs, BNPLs and SACCOs, driving EV adoption at the grassroots, ensuring that clean mobility is accessible to everyday users - a space where Watu Credit continues to make a real impact. Gratitude to all partners, including Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, Credence Engage, Credence Mobility and the broader network of innovators, policymakers, and financiers championing this transition. Kenya’s e-mobility future is not just a vision - it’s unfolding before us. ⚡🇰🇪 #EMAK #EMobilityKenya #FinancingTheShift #CleanTransport #SustainableMobility #ElectricVehicles #Kenya #Innovation #Finance
Kenya’s E-Mobility Momentum on Full Display at EMAK’s 3rd Quarterly Roundtable 2025. What an extraordinary day at the EMAK Quarterly Roundtable: Financing the Shift, Unlocking Capital for Kenya’s E-Mobility Transition. We witnessed a record turnout every seat filled and conversations spilling over into the corridors as government agencies, financiers, operators, technology innovators, and development partners came together under one roof. The sheer breadth of stakeholders reflected the surging interest and confidence in Kenya’s electric mobility future. From public-sector financing frameworks and private capital pathways to end-user asset financing models and battery & charging infrastructure finance, each session delivered practical insights, sparked new connections, and surfaced innovative ideas on how to accelerate the shift to clean transport. Highlights of the Day Stakeholders shared concrete examples of how blended finance, guarantees, and aggregated demand can unlock private capital for electric vehicles and infrastructure. SACCOs, micro-finance institutions and pay-as-you-go innovators showcased the potential to de-risk last-mile EV financing at scale. Policy makers reaffirmed their commitment to aligning incentives and regulatory frameworks with private-sector innovation. Operators and financiers openly discussed data gaps and risk perception – and ways to overcome them collaboratively. Why This Matters Kenya is no longer testing the waters. We’re in the middle of a regional e-mobility surge, with local entrepreneurs designing EVs, global investors eyeing our market, and government institutions shaping supportive policies. This Roundtable proved just how much progress is possible when the ecosystem meets around the same table. Next Steps The energy and insights from this event will feed directly into ongoing collaboration between EMAK members, partners, and policy makers. A comprehensive report capturing the discussions, key recommendations, and actionable next steps will be released before the end of this month. We’re proud of the partnerships forged, the candid discussions held, and the shared determination to make Kenya a leader in electric mobility. A huge thank you to everyone who joined, contributed and helped make this Roundtable a success. Gratitude also goes to our partnership with Credence EngageCredence Mobility and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbHGIZ Kenya through the Promotion of Electric Mobility in Kenya project. This project is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. Together, we’re not just talking about the future of clean transport we’re building it. #EMAK #EMobilityKenya #FinancingTheShift #CleanTransport #SustainableMobility #KenyaHezbon MoseMoses NderituDennis WakabaDustin KahlerAlice EjioforSteve Onyango [Econ, CPA, CISA, MBA]Elijah oduor
