Vietnam's exports grew 14.8% year-on-year up to August 2025, with exports to the US up 27.2% on the same period last year (with the trade surplus with the US also increasing by 26.8%). This seems in stark contrast to the expected results when Trump announced his new tarrif approach some months back, with the opposite impact being seen so far. Vietnam's total trade surplus, though, is being impacted - driven by input costs for manufacturers increasing, and being felt in reduced margins.
