👉🏼 Meet Willie Xaiwouth, MRLG Photocompetition 2025 Laos prize winner! Willie is an artist from Xayabouri province in norther Laos. He chanced upon this photo on a family trip. He shared: "Along the side, I saw the forest is half slashed and burned and so much smoke and pollution. And I saw the people, the farmer is harvesting cassava and in the same time in the background I also saw the high voltage electricity pole the huge fire is burning in the same time. For me, this is not just a picture but it's a reflection of the things that's happening that needs to be addressed." 👏Congratulations Willie! Meet Kouy Socheat, Cambodia Prize winner for the 2025 MRLG Photocompetition. Socheat's winning entry depicts daily life on the Mekong river in Kratie Province. "Through this image, I want to capture the simple yet powerful life of the local fishing community, the harmony between people, and the river that sustains them. The couple working together in the boat tells the story of traditional resilience and hope for the future. I took this photo to share the beauty and importance of the Mekong and to show how communities depend on it, not only for their livelihood but also their culture and identity." Congratulations Socheat! And thanks again to all the photographers across the Mekong Region who participated! Meet Huang Hai Thinh, Grand Prize Winner of the 2025 MRLG Photocompetition! Hai Thinh's photo was taken in Tam Chúc, Vietnam. Describing the shot, he says: "This man, once a forest worker, now fishes to survive after a tourism project flooded local forests to create an artificial lake. Launched in the 2010s, the project turned the area into a major religious and eco-tourism site, displacing ecosystems and altering traditional livelihoods. With little access to former forest resources and few alternatives, some residents have taken up fishing despite having no experience." Congratulations Hai Thinh! And thanks to all the photographers across the Mekong Region who participated! The 4th Mekong Region Land Forum, a three-day event that brought together policy makers, researchers, civil society organizations and private sector leaders focused on strengthening how customary tenure rights can serve as a catalyst for attracting responsible investment, sustainable development, and a just transition. I had privilege to share on “Gender Justice transformations in land governance for the next decade” in the session Reimagining equity: Shaping the future of gender inclusive land governance in the Mekong Region. The session brought together the gender experts from region who emphasized on the transformative approaches, the significance of intersectionality and role of women leaders for gender responsive land governance in the Mekong. I firmly believe, the symbolic representation of women is inadqeuate but women must be integral to the decision-making power structures. #Genderjustice #MRLF

Honored to contribute at the Mekong Regional Land Forum 2025 in Bangkok sharing Myanmar perspectives, facilitating dialogue, and learning from regional peers. Thrilled to have joined three sessions, presenting on customary tenure documentation in Cambodia & Myanmar, speaking in the Myanmar country session on tenure recognition and security, and facilitating the Myanmar alliance dialogue on engaging subnational authorities. Over an intensive 2.5 days, I gained inspiring lessons from colleagues across Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and beyond from scaling forest tenure reform and citizen monitoring of land laws, to bringing ASEAN customary tenure guidelines into real practice. It was also a valuable space to reconnect with friends, meet new partners, and strengthen alliances for inclusive and climate-resilient land governance in the Mekong region. Special thanks to the Myanmar Alliance Team for your support, belief, trust, and love, your solidarity makes this journey possible. #MekongRegionalLandForum #CustomaryTenure #LandGovernance #IndigenousRights #ClimateJustice
