🌍 Brineworks Raises €6.8M to Scale Breakthrough Direct Air Capture for e-Fuels We’re proud to share that our portfolio company Brineworks has secured €6.8M (€5M equity round + €1.8M EIC grant) to commercialize its ultra-low-cost Direct Air Capture (#DAC) technology — targeting sub-€100/ton CO₂ capture. At the heart of Brineworks’ solution is a patented electrolyzer designed to run on 100% renewable energy 🪨 capturing CO₂ at record-low cost while co-producing clean hydrogen. Together, these outputs unlock affordable sustainable aviation fuels (#SAF) and e-methanol for shipping, helping decarbonize two of the hardest-to-abate sectors. This round was led by SeaX Ventures, with participation from returning investors Satgana, Pale blue dot, First Momentum Ventures, AiiM Partners, Energie 360° and Katapult. According to Eurostat, in 2023, every EU citizen generated 511 kg of municipal waste. In 2022, according to European Environmental Bureau (EEB), EU citizens produced over 180 kg of packaging waste per person. Today, on the first day of the European Week for Waste Reduction, it’s worth highlighting the targets and opportunities ahead 👉 by 2025, the EU aims to recycle 65 % of all packaging waste. 💡 We see this as a call to action: waste is a design flaw waiting for innovation.
