"As the country strives to adapt its economic model towards a high value-adding one, generating high quality jobs, we need to stop thinking in terms of short-term populistic gains and focus on long term strategies, as highlighted in The Malta Chamber's pre-budget document. Anything short of that might result in immediate popularity at the expense of longer-term prosperity." - Ruben Cuschieri, Member of The Malta Chamber's Board of Management 📰 The Malta Independent | Read more: https://lnkd.in/dkS2ymSV

A delegation from The Malta Chamber, led by President William Spiteri Bailey and CEO Dr Marthese Portelli, met with CLECAT DG Nicolette van der Jagt, joined by representatives from our Logistics and Shipping & Bunkering Business Section committees. As proud members of CLECAT, Europe’s leading Logistics, Customs and forwarding body, we continue to make Malta’s voice heard, lobbying our island’s connectivity needs. As an EU island state, connectivity by road, sea, and air is not optional — it’s our lifeline. We stressed that one-size-fits-all EU policies risk penalising Malta’s unique geographic realities and competitiveness. 📌 We urged adoption of the IMO Net-Zero Framework and eventual withdrawal of the EU ETS Maritime, to protect Mediterranean transhipment competitiveness. 📌 We called for EU Combined Transport Directive to automatically include all journeys to and from EU island states, irrespective of distance considerations. During Ms Van der Jagt’s visit, The Malta Chamber coordinated talks with ATTO Malta, delving deeper into freight transport operators and haulage provider implications, to address local sectoral challenges.
