I walked in and the first thing that caught my eye were the books. All the ones I’ve always dreamt of owning in hard copy. The Female Body Bible, The Power of Women, Things They Lost by Okwiri Oduor… I couldn’t stop smiling seeing them but couldn't afford them. It was my first time attending Read to Resist and honestly, I was a bit nervous. I kept practicing how I would greet the women in the room, women who looked so confident and experienced. “Our Broken Silence” by Adelle Onyango and Lanji Ouko-Awori , the book of the day was so raw , journaling the experiences of different women who were survivors and victors of Gender Based Violence. We talked about almost everything, the Sexual Offences Act (2006) being amended, body talk therapy, internalised shame. what it really means to heal and so much more. our Executive Director at Community Voices Network Ritah Anindo Obonyo asked a question that still lingers in me. “How do we coexist in communities without separating ourselves while still fighting for choice, Access and agency in Sexual Reproduction Health?" What moved me most was the urgency and honestly these powerful women spoke in that demand action. This experience for me was a moment of connection and courage. A huge gratitude to Community Voices Network and Ipas #CommunityVoices #ReadToResist
