On September 24, 1971, Hotel Okura Amsterdam officially opened its doors, a landmark moment in our history. For 54 years, we have had the honour of being a bridge between two cultures, seamlessly blending the art of traditional Japanese hospitality that goes beyond simple service, known as Omotenashi, with the sophistication of modern Western luxury.
The story began with a vision to bring authentic Japanese hospitality to Europe. This ambition was built on trust and collaboration: the founders cultivated strong relationships with local partners, artisans, and suppliers, ensuring every detail reflected both Japanese artistry and Dutch craftsmanship. These connections laid the foundation for a hotel that would stand out not only for luxury but for genuine cultural exchange.
We were the first hotel in Europe to introduce authentic Japanese fine dining, with Yamazato becoming the first Japanese restaurant in the world to earn a Michelin star. The success continued with Ciel Bleu, our two-Michelin-star restaurant on the 23rd floor, which has captivated guests for decades with its breathtaking views and exquisite cuisine.
This anniversary is a tribute to our founders, our dedicated staff, and the generations of guests who have made our story their own. Your trust and loyalty have been the foundation of our success. As we celebrate our rich past, we are more committed than ever to our future, continuing to innovate while upholding the timeless values that define us.
Thank you for being part of our journey. Here’s to many more years of shared memories, exceptional hospitality, and bridges between cultures.
