𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗱𝗲𝗮𝗱 - it’s evolving. And that’s a good thing. Brent Ozar’s recent post has stirred some discussion around the future of SSRS. Let’s clarify what’s actually happening. Starting with SQL Server 2025, 𝘰𝘯-𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘦𝘴 𝘳𝘦𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 will be unified under 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗕𝗜 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲𝗿 (𝗣𝗕𝗜𝗥𝗦). This means no new versions of SSRS will be released - instead, PBIRS becomes the default for all 𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗱 𝗦𝗤𝗟 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗲𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, no longer requiring Software Assurance (SA). Why is this great news? ✅ Power BI Report Server is the 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲𝘁 of SSRS ✅ It supports both pixel-perfect 𝗥𝗗𝗟 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀 and modern 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗕𝗜 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀 ✅ Migrating .rdl files from SSRS to PBIRS is easy - guides are available ✅ SSRS 2022 is fully supported until 𝗝𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝟭𝟭, 𝟮𝟬𝟯𝟯 I've built hundreds (if not thousands) of SSRS reports over my career. It's been my bread and butter - though admittedly, less so in recent years. I welcome this consolidation. It simplifies the landscape and gives more organizations access to the 𝗼𝗻-𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗶𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗕𝗜 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲. But let’s be clear: you don’t need to migrate your paginated reports to Power BI reports. PBIRS supports them as-is.

Power BI integration within SharePoint lists and libraries is going to be retired ✅️ This change impacts customers who currently use the ‘Visualize the List’ or ‘Visualize the Library’ feature to create or access reports directly from SharePoint. Deprecation Timeline: ➡️ November 11th, 2025- No new reports can be created from a SharePoint list or library using Visualize the list or the library. ➡️ December 11th, 2025 Any previously published reports created using this integration will no longer be available. Recommended alternatives: Explore and analyze SharePoint list data in Power BI through the following approaches: 1. Export to Power BI directly from SharePoint list. You can quickly create a semantic model in the Power BI service directly from a SharePoint list. Once the semantic model is ready, you can explore your data with just a few clicks using Auto-create report, offering a similar experience to ‘Visualize the List’ or ‘Visualize the Library’. 2. Create a report on a SharePoint List in Power BI Desktop If you need advanced modelling or data transformation, you can connect to the SharePoint list from Power BI Desktop. #SharePoint #powerbi #deprecation #update #learnwidgiggs
