Two weeks ago, I spoke with a new leader in Enterprise Architecture who shared an interesting perspective. His EA team (8 people) had been covering both Enterprise Architecture and Business Architecture responsibilities. On paper, that sounds efficient. In reality, he felt it wasn’t working. He felt that capability models that leaned too heavily toward IT enablement and gap analyses that missed business operations. Communication he felt was often reactive to situations without any elements of control. With a maximum potential headcount of 10 across both EA and Business Architecture, his plan is clear: 👉 First, assess the performance of his existing EA team. 👉 Then, create a dedicated Business Architecture function The infographic we created below outlines the difference between a Business Architect and an Enterprise Architect doing a dual role (EA+BA). 🥸 𝐒𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐝𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥 𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐚—𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐬𝐲𝐧𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐚 🥸 I’ve been experimenting with 𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 (𝐃𝐆) in ServiceNow and it’s quite cool 🆒 DG helps 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐬𝐲𝐧𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐐𝐀 & 𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐮𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞, but more use cases are possible if you think about it: 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦, 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘵𝘰𝘵𝘺𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘨, 𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘥𝘦𝘮𝘰 𝘥𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘭𝘰𝘱𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵. Although originally associated with 𝐝𝐞𝐯 𝐬𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐛𝐨𝐱𝐞𝐬, its usefulness goes well beyond that🧰 ✅ DG works as a 𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐟𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐫 𝐀𝐏𝐈 to generate records and field values of specific types. ✅ 𝐃𝐆 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐬 define what data to generate and link to sandbox templates ✅ 𝐃𝐆 𝐝𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 allow generating data across multiple tables within a single profile ✅ 𝐃𝐆 𝐟𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐝 𝐦𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 specify which fields are tied to which actions Field types are produced by 𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬. Well-Architected is making a comeback at Dreamforce 2025! 🙌🏻 It’s good that Salesforce listened to the architect community and opted to relaunch Well-Architected at DF25. Pretty much every major Salesforce consultancy agrees that the ecosystem is not Agentforce-ready. Inadequate data quality, inconsistent governance, ever-increasing complexity, poor end-user adoption… These are just a few of the challenges blocking Agentforce adoption. And all of the above are architectural challenges. There’s one domain in particular that needs ”well-architecting” – marketing. Marketers have needed special dispensation for implementing MarTech. They’ve used their autonomy from rigid IT governance to procure and deploy quickly. As a result, marketing is an architectural no-man’s land: – Point solutions with feature overlap – Unused licenses and features – Non-compliant integrations – Increased risk of data leakage or breach Fellow marketing architects!
