One of the problems in the bike industry is a shortage of mechanics. Several reasons back this problem: the lack of formal training and official recognition of the job leads to lower salaries, which leads people to make their living far from bike workshops. Yes, ROI anxiety and investment rejection as well. It is a vicious circle that needs to be broken. The best way is to create an official bike mechanic training program/title, ensuring that your mechanic will be properly skilled. Next, pay a fair salary to your mechanic, and show your clients how important it is to have an expert in your workshop backed by the corresponding title. France, Germany, or the Netherlands have already covered this first step by having a Bike Mechanic title. For the last three years, AMBE, Spanish Bicycle Industry Association, led by the always-there Jesus Freire, has been the starring role in that journey that finally poured the Comprehensive Assembly, Bike, and Personal Mobility Vehicles Maintenance Degree. Almost 700 hours will entitle the mechanics to become to work as bike assembly specialists, maintenance technicians, workshop managers, among other bike-related profiles. The evolution and new bike technologies will also be covered by learning about: - Fixing and diagnosing electric and electronic bike systems. (Electric if you use a screwdriver and electronic if you wear a white laboratory coat 😊) - Advanced e-bike and cargo bike maintenance. - Ergonomics. - Regulations. - Sustainable urban mobility.
