IONETIC, a start-up originating at Imperial College London, is helping automakers reduce both cost and risk through its end-to-end battery pack development platform by combining design software, hardware architecture and flexible production. The company recently opened a 100 MWh pilot production facility, set to be fully operational in 2025 and creating 30 high-skill jobs. The facility will enable niche and small-volume vehicle manufacturers to access battery solutions tailored to their needs. At Lightyear, we are proud to contribute to the SolarMoves project, together with TNO, Fraunhofer-Institut für Solare Energiesysteme ISE, IM Efficiency and Sono Solar. So far, the project has collected over one million kilometers of real-world driving data across Europe. The findings confirm that vehicle-integrated solar panels can be a valuable source of renewable energy for mobility, while also highlighting important factors such as shading and user behavior. For Lightyear, this is a strong confirmation of what we stand for: solar technology can make a real impact on the road to clean mobility.
