📊 Are we making the most of the education data we collect? Too often, education systems end up “data rich but information poor.” 💡 Collecting data is not an end in itself, what matters is understanding what it is telling us and using this knowledge to improve teaching and learning. The Luminos Fund shows how to deliver this in practise by viewing learning as their ‘north star.’ Their accelerated learning programme for out-of-school children in Liberia uses learning assessments and classroom observations not just to measure, but to improve. Data is analysed, discussed, and – crucially - fed back to teachers and facilitators, helping them adapt classroom practice in real time. By embedding this feedback loop, Luminos transforms monitoring from a compliance exercise into a learning tool. Programme managers refine design, facilitators strengthen instruction, and children gain the literacy, numeracy, and confidence they need to thrive. The lesson for the wider sector? Evidence should never sit on a shelf - it must actively drive improvement.
