🚀 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁: 𝗔𝗺𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗮 𝘁𝗼 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 What if we could power gas turbines with ammonia instead of fossil fuels? That’s exactly what the Ammonia to Power project – part of the Clean Ammonia Innovation Platform – aims to explore. Together with partners including Shell, RWE, Port of Rotterdam, Equinor, Baker Hughes, Ammonia Energy Association and OCI Global, ISPT - Institute for Sustainable Process Technology is investigating how clean ammonia could support the #energytransition. From direct combustion to hydrogen production via cracking – this project will assess technological readiness, infrastructure needs, emissions and the business case. 🔍 Our goal: to understand the role #ammonia could play in decarbonising the power sector in North-Western Europe – and beyond. Over the next 1.5 years, the consortium will deliver insights and a public report that will help shape policy and industry decisions. #energytransition #ammonia #sustainablefuture #processindustry #powersector Rob Stevens, Carol Xiao, Hans Van 't Noordende, Otto Tobé, Kevin Rouwenhorst

The Clean Ammonia Innovation Platfom brings together stakeholders and form a future landscape for ammonia.
Over ons
Ammonia can play an important role in the energy transition and climate goals. But so far little is known on how to fit clean ammonia value chains in the future sustainable energy mix. There is a lack of knowledge regarding needs for investments to match future demand, how a supply chain of clean ammonia is envisioned, benefits of cracking ammonia to hydrogen technologies, and enablers for scaling-up and to have a profitable business case. The Clean Ammonia Innovation Platfom brings together stakeholders to address these questions and form a future landscape for ammonia.

📍🚢 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁: 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘀 Before the summer, we had the privilege of visiting our valued partner Chane Terminals at their impressive Chane Terminal Botlek in the Port of Rotterdam. We were truly inspired by the broad range of services they offer. Not only do they provide bulk liquid storage solutions, but they also offer multimodal logistics and flexible distilling capabilities tailored to evolving energy markets. 🔹 What stood out most was their commitment to #safety, #innovation, and future readiness. Their in-house training facilities for operators and new technologies clearly demonstrate a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence. Chane operates 21 strategic terminals across Europe, including three major hubs in Rotterdam, with a robust total capacity of 5.3 million m³. Their portfolio includes the handling and storage of chemicals, vegetable oils, fuels, biofuels, feedstocks and clean energy carriers. This makes them a vital player in the journey toward a more sustainable #energysystem. We are #proud to have such a forward-thinking partner helping to enable the ammonia value chain and the broader energy transition. Thank you to Tamme Mekkes and Chane Terminals colleagues for the insightful tour and continued collaboration! 🤝

On May 22, at the World Hydrogen 2025 Summit & Exhibition in Ahoy Rotterdam, we took the time to meet up with all our partners from the Clean Ammonia Innovation Platform to celebrate the publication of our latest report. Aside from celebrating, the meeting was also a good opportunity to gather some feedback from the partners on the report. Rob Stevens, chairman of the Clean Ammonia Innovation Platform remarks: 🗨️ “It is essential that the industry has been able to and continues to engage in dialogue with stakeholders on the possibilities of energy carriers.” Tamme Mekkes, business development director at Chane, adds: 🗨️ “This study is the result of a great collaboration to show that a safe ammonia pipeline is possible for the energy transition.” Wouter Koopman, senior business manager gas & hydrogen partnerships The Netherlands at Shell tells us: 🗨️ “As the European industry is struggling to access sustainable energy at an affordable price, the publication of the Clean Ammonia Pipeline Safety report forms an important building block in developing the required roadmap to enable EU's industry to become competitive again.” And Mark Stoelinga, manager Industry & Infrastructure, Port of Rotterdam, would like to share: 🗨️ “ISPT is a unique platform to connect with stakeholders to achieve cooperation and better understanding about energy and transition projects, bringing technology solutions into the market.” The study was conducted by a leading consortium consisting of Aramco Europe, Chane, EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG, Equinor, Fluxys, Gasunie, Port of Rotterdam, Shell, and OCI, with technical support from DNV. The project was coordinated by ISPT - Institute for Sustainable Process Technology. The Clean Ammonia Pipeline Safety Report presents clear recommendations to ensure the safe, scalable, and reliable transport of ammonia by pipeline. 📥 Access the full report and discover the key insights [link in comments ⤵️] #ammonia #cleanammonia #safety #pipelines #ARRRA
