What a great #IATAWSOC in Xiamen 🇨🇳 It’s been inspiring to spend time with so many passionate professionals from across the world — all working towards the same goal: keeping aviation safe, resilient, and people-centred. I had the opportunity to participate in “The Way Forward” session on the Cabin Track, moderated by the fantastic Jonathan Jasper — a true advocate for cabin safety. Together, we reflected on lessons from the week and explored the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for cabin safety. A few key reflections: 🤝 Collaboration is our greatest strength. Real progress happens when regulators, operators, and manufacturers work together. 🚨 Representation matters. The cabin voice must be heard at every level of the safety conversation — in data, policy, training, design, and operation leadership. 🌏 Culture defines how safety feels. Aviation is global, but culture is local — and our safety systems must respect and learn from that diversity. During my closing summary, I shared a thought that I believe is worth repeating: I think we must admit that we occasionally confuse compliance with commitment. Compliance is vital — it gives us structure, accountability, and consistency. But commitment is something deeper — it’s what happens when people believe in the purpose behind the rules, not just the rules themselves. ✅ Compliance asks: “Have we done what’s required?” 💡 Commitment asks: “Have we done what’s right for my organization?” Compliance ends when the checklist is complete. Commitment continues when no one is watching. We often say we value “Just Culture” — but do we truly create the conditions where people feel safe to speak up, or only when the report looks good on paper?🤔 Thank you to John, Sergij, Stéphane, Anabel, Claire, Jay, Emily, Hege and many more for making this an amazing event— and to IATA for bringing the global cabin safety community together once again. And thank you to the entire IATA Cabin Operations Safety Task Force. Thank you for the invitation Jonathan Jasper Mark Searle Michell Tovar Ramírez Luftfartstilsynet
