At Forskningsparken, new technology is developed every day. New products, gadgets, apps, sensors, services, websites, etc. Are they adding to our cognitive load, or are they making our lives easier and better? We like to believe the latter. But how can we constantly improve? We believe that sharing knowledge is a good start. This week, Amber Case from the Calm Tech Institute gave an inspiring talk as part of the series "Calm Tech Café". Good tech, she says, should be a “pass-through”: understandable at a glance, operable by feel, and informative without speaking. A few unfiltered takeaways: 🫱 Your hands have eyes, too! Re-introducing textures and tactile buttons in technology makes everything easier. 🎛️ Sometimes, more, not less, creates calm. If you have all the information you need at a glance (think aircraft cockpits or car control panels), your attention can be put where it is most needed. 🔵 Use colour to convey or compress information. And maybe ditch the blue LED lights as a standard? It may be the colour we associate with "expensive" and "future", but it's not calm. "The right amount of technology is the minimum needed to solve the problem"* Next week, as a part of Oslo Innovation Week, we are super excited to welcome Amber Case to our humble Calm Tech Café. ☕ Join us in meeting room KINO Tuesday Oct 21 at 8.30 AM. No sign-up required! Amber Case is an internationally recognized design advocate, author and speaker, and the founder of Calm Tech Institute. Launched in May 2024, Calm Tech Institute is dedicated to redefining technologies that enhance human life without causing stress or distraction. Among the products given a Calm Tech Certification™ is the reMarkable Paper Pro. Her talk will cover how to use the *Principles of Calm Technology™ to design the next generation of connected devices. She’ll look at notification styles, compressing information into other senses, and designing for the least amount of cognitive overhead.

Se opptaket fra Innovasjonsfrokosten her: https://lnkd.in/dqH9WKBw

How can we design technology that becomes a part of a user’s life, rather than a distraction from it? 📵 On one Tuesday each month, we invite a speaker to share their take on #calm_technology. Co-hosted by SINTEF Digital and Startuplab, it has become a series of intimate, yet open and inviting talks in Parken Bakeri, Forskningsparken. Everyone is welcome, plus there is free coffee and pastries! Last week, Thomas Ramberg from Dory reflected on how technology can be visible without being intrusive, elegant without being distracting, and helpful without demanding attention. Next time, on October 21, we have the honour of welcoming Amber Case to the Calm Tech Café. She is an internationally recognised design advocate and speaker. She studies the interactions between humans and technology, and how technology affects culture. She is the founder of The Calm Tech Institute, a new certification body that rewards companies that design products in harmony with humans - a certification recently given to reMarkable. This event is also featured in the Oslo Innovation Week program.
